Join Couchsurfing to see Jon’s full profile. It’s free!
My name's Jon, and I'm an English teacher in Xiamen, China.
I'm an aspiring adventurer, a teacher and a former political candidate. I'm trying to publish a memoir of my time hitchhiking across America, and working on too many smaller projects, including a podcast about a month I spent treasure hunting in the Rocky Mountains, and a novel I'm working on. My WeChat is: MrJonLott
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I hitchhiked across America in 2016 and wanted to meet people and not pay for shelter. I like going to new places and meeting locals, and I figure I ought to pay it forward and host people if possible. Now I'm going to Xiamen, and would like to meet other expats and hosts and visitors in the area.
Hotels (and rent everywhere) are too expensive, so couchsurfing is a small way to get back at those companies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 2016, I hitchhiked across America (DC to LA) in 17 days, spending less than $100. I started in winter (3/15) and got about two dozen rides across ten states, and had all sorts of adventures.

I used to teach high school Latin, but I can tell you about marketing, writing, politics, and photography. I know some Latin and Swahili if you're a language enthusiast, and I'm learning Mandarin.
