About Me

Hi!

I am a recent graduate of the University of Chicago, now spending the year working remotely and traveling. Really looking forward to meeting new people and seeing the big wide world.

I love martial arts, and training with people from different places. I also love a good hike and spending time in nature. Mostly vegetarian, occasionally eating some fish. Have all my vaccines and all that.

I am not sure what my long term aspirations are yet, but know that I want to leave this world in a little bit better place than I found it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new people, learn about different cultures, and live a little more spontaneously and minimally. The people I have met who use CS all live much more freely and I want to find a bit more of that free spirit.

Bloodlands, Europe Betwen Hitler and Stalin, Timothy Snyder
Embers of War, The Fall of an Empire and the Makings of Americas Vietnam, Fredrik Logevall
Candide, Voltaire
Inferno, Dante
Tractatus Theologico Politicus, Benedict Spinoza
The Theory of Moral Sentiments, Adam Smith

Favorite TV:
Avatar the last Air Bender (I also loved Legend of Korra)
The Last Kingdom
Game of Thrones (until they ruined it)
House MD

Favorite bands are Counting Crows, NEEDTOBREATHE, and Dire Straits.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in a muay thai gym in Thailand for six weeks. Met some cool people and bruised my shins a lot.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach some jiu jitsu and some computer science.

I want to continue trying to learn new languages - currently trying to force myself to watch tv shows in mandarin (looking for good recs), and thinking of trying to start to pick up some Russian.

Happy to share my thoughts on the little history and philosophy I know, or help with tasks or projects.
