About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Mar 2015: Just returned to Australia after 18 months travelling Western Canada, Alaska, U.S.A. and South America.... gearing up for my next travel adventure - Singapore & Malaysia in Apr / May 2015!

ABOUT ME

Australian guy, living and travelling the world since 2008 (UK, Europe, North America, South America), just recently returned to Australia in late November 2014.

Like many people on CS, I would describe myself as being a friendly and open-minded person. I like meeting couchsurfers wherever I travel, its a great way to connect with people from all over the world, and make the world feel just a bit smaller and see things through the eyes of others and learn more things - even just sharing travel stories and funny stuff can make for great times out. And I've discovered myself to be a really good people connector - I'm good at meeting up with disparate couchsurfers and bringing them altogether for impromptu ad-hoc couchsurfing meetups in any given place I'm at.

There's a whole lot more to me, but its best you meet me in person so you can ask me and find out for yourself! :-)

PHILOSOPHY

Treat others with respect and be open-minded about anything; you can always learn something new all the time

Through interacting with others and exploring more of the world, day by day I hope to learn more about my true self and find out my true mission in life.

Favourite quote: "To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded"

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've CouchSurfed for my first time in Oct 2009 - and am definitely wanting to do more of it! I'm also spreading the word of CouchSurfing via word of mouth to friends, and anyone else I've come across, e.g. hostelling, random conversations with strangers. I've also been to a couple of CS meetings in Glasgow, London, Lyon, Manchester, Brisbane, and so many other cities/towns in Europe - lots of fun and awesome friendly people!

And I recently did an EPIC backpacking trip through Europe (18 weeks!), where I've been lucky enough to have been able to find a couch in EVERY city/town I've been visiting throughout my journey - and more importantly, meeting SO MANY Couchsurfers through it than I ever had in the previous 12 months!!!

I've also attended numerous CouchCrash events (Manchester, Edinburgh, Paris, Washington DC, Chicago, Albuquerque), and local Couchsurfing meetups in various cities around the world

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Burlingame California USA (early Oct 2009) - that was awesome and memorable, was able to explore Burlingame and of course, San Francisco area thanks to the chilled and easygoing nature of my CS hosts, Carissa and Keeler! :-)

Liverpool UK (mid Feb 2010) - thanks to my lovely host Naomi and her housemates, I was able to explore the city of Liverpool quite well, and I also had a blast hanging out with them all, lots of fun chats for sure! I even ended up going to a local pub quiz night that they all went to, great fun!

Manchester UK (Feb 2010) - this was a bit last minute (in the middle of my Liverpool trip!) but it turned out good thanks to Stephen, as it meant that I could explore Manchester for 2 whole days and also hang out with Stephen and other CSers for the night (game of table football was addictive!)

Lyon, France (late Feb 2010). Wow, what can I say, but I love the friendliness and hospitality that was shown to me by my hosts Marion and Rodolphe! I also met Michel (aka NOMAD) and other Lyonnaise CSers during my stay. Thanks to them, I was able to explore and experience more of Lyon city and Lyonnaise food than I could ever have possibly done on my own!!!

Manchester AGAIN - for the Madchester Festival! Stayed with Geoff, fantastic bloke, met many CSers over the weekend - guided tour, dinner at the Curry Mile, hike at Peak District, and great company!

Bristol (early April 2010)

St Petersburg (late June 2010)

Edinburgh (mid July 2010)

Paris (mid July 2010) - Paris CS Rendezvous!

Aberdeen (late July 2010) - Aberdeen CS Summer Camp!

Tampere (Aug 15) - CS Tampere Summer Meeting! Just one day though... kinda sucked I missed out on the other couple of days :-/

Oslo (Aug 20-22 2010) - my first visit to Norway! Host: Stine

Stavanger (Sep 24-26 2010) - yay I got to see Stavanger and hike up to Preikestolen!!!

Tampere again! (Oct 8-10 2010) - I just had to see more of Tampere! Host: Kateriina

(I have far too many experiences to list here, as I've couchesurfed DOZENS of times since I embarked on my Nov 2010-Apr 2011 backpacking trip)

One Amazing Thing I've Done

I've done several things that to me, I think is amazing.

Recently, I visited Easter Island in 2014 during my 1 year long travel adventure in South America. Its probably the highlight of my entire trip - moreso because when I was a kid, I read about Easter Island in school books, but I'd never have dreamt I would be going, until I made a decision to book a flight out of the blue whilst travelling the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. Best decision I ever made :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach a bit about some partner based dancing, in particular, West Coast Swing, Australian modern jive

I can try to teach someone some basic Tagalog, but that could end up being hysterically funny! :-P

I can share my ever-changing recipe for all-time Filipino favourite dish "adobo" - every Couchsurfer who has tried my adobo said its yummy! :-)

I want to learn some basic phrases in the major European languages, e.g. French, German, Italian, Spanish; I want to greet people during my Europe travels in their native tongue!

I'm also learning as much about West Coast Swing dancing as I can, its my main hobby (apart from travelling) at the moment!

Having said that I'm up for learning ANYTHING you think you can teach me - cooking, making stuff, anything!!! That's what life is about right, learning something new everyday! :-)
