About Me

Me? I'm 45, no longer married (20 years) my children are grown, and It's time to start meeting some new and exciting people in the most amazing places on the planet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet new, exciting, laid back people to share experiences with and to learn about new cultures, foods, drinks and experiences. I enjoy life and hope for the opportunity to meet others of the same mindset.

Interests

They are what they are. I dont expect anyone to find the things i like as cool as i do. I'm as content relaxing on a beach with a cold beer as I am in a nightclub listening to a band as I am cooking over a fire for the family. I'm not much help in the kitchen, mainly because the things I want to cook are Chinese or Japanese and as many times as I've tried, I can't even get fried rice correct. On a grill, though, I'm hard to beat. Meat and veggies both. Should we ever meet, you'll have to let me grill for you.... and if you can cook Chinese or Japanese, I won't leave your side until I can do it too.

Music, Movies, and Books

I listen to a full range of american music up until about 2000. Very little that suits me after that. I don't read a ton any more, but I do like A Brief History of Time by Hawking, pretty much everything Terry Pratchett has ever published as well as all things Tolkein. Movies? Not many, I'm currently a sucker for Game of Thrones and am desperately awaiting Season 7.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in Germany in the early 90's. One of the coolest things I remember is that every bar we ever went to had a specialty free drink for first timers at the locale. I drank all sorts of wild stuff, but I think the weirdest was at a bar along the river in Heidelberg. It was called "Dracula's Blood", was red, warm, and served in test tubes.

Teach, Learn, Share

I managed data networks for 20 years. Im looking to learn new cultures and am happy to pass along anything I know to someone genuinely interested. I know a little German, less Spanish, but I'm a quick study. Google Translate can get us through any rough patches. I'm also happy to spend as much time as you can tolerate teaching conversational English.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've sold my posessions to travel, but if you're staying in Birmingham, I'll happily Uber to you and show you the best food and nightlife areas.

Countries I’ve Lived In

Germany, United States
