About Me

"I travel not to go anywhere but to go. The greatest affair is to move." - Robert Louise Stevenson

I'm from China originally but have been living in the United States for almost a decade. / I'm a huge nerd and am currently working on a Ph.D. / I'm very easygoing, sweet, polite, outgoing, open-minded, curious, intelligent, independent, creative, artistic, flexible, nerdy, and witty. / I'm idealistically realist and is the embodiment of both romanticism and level-headedness. / I'm a good listener, a conversationalist, a jet-setter, a smiler and laugher, a psychologist, an amateur photographer/musician/writer, and an adverture-seeker. / But above all, if only we could understand the full dimensions of the self! :)

Achieving depth and width. :)

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I have been hosting couchsurfers from around the world in Syracuse. I also couchsurfed in Chicago, Canada, Europe, and Australia...the adventures of couchsurfing have added great joy to my life. And I'm so fortunate to have formed long-lasting friendships with some of the fellow CSers!

I have hosted CSers from the US, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Estonia, France, Korea, and Germany in Syracuse. I became really good friends with a few of them and in fact surfed back at their homes in New York City, Den Bosch (Holland), and Paris. In addition, I also surfed in Chicago, Toronto, Ottawa, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Melbourne. Each experience and encounter has been unique and interesting in its own way!

Being human, spirituality and philosophy, love and relationships, culture, literature, music, curiosity, traveling, books, writing, words, photography, colors, sunsets, family, friends, thinking, quality time and deep conversations, languages, nature, unconventional living, creativity, self-reflection, people-watching, making the world a better place, oceans, royal families, languages and accents, psychology, staying healthy, women and gender studies, singing, making new friends, and learning all things new!!

Music, Movies & Books

I tend to listen to indie, classical, alternative rock, folk and jazz, and Chinese pop. I also love musicals and random 60's music. Just to name a few artists that I enjoy listening to: Siri Nilsen, Kate Walsh, Garness, Sylvie Lewis, Nickel Creek, Sarah McLachlan, Yael Naim, Allison Krauss, etc.

In terms of books, I enjoy classical literature and particularly British and Russian, and American literature (so think D.H. Lawrence, Sylvia Plath, Henry James, Tolstoy, Faulkner, Dostoevsky, etc).

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Riding a train alone across China when I was 14 years old (ever since then, there has been no turning back on this great adventure :). / Christmas with the Eskimos near the North Pole in Alaska. / Climbing up to the top of Stanage Edge in Yorkshire, England. / Crossing the crazy border from Benin to Nigeria by road. / Those solo days in Mumbai, India. / Flying around the world in 3 days. / Working in a summer camp for inner city kids in Miami. / Sightseeing Casablanca on a stranger's scooter and enjoying the hospitality that he and his family showered me with. / The most gorgeous sunset at Henderson Bay, New York. / Viewing the Apple Drop with thousands of people at Times Squares on New Year's Eve. / Seeing Queen Elizabeth II and the royal family at the gate of Buckingham Palace on the day of her Diamond Jubilee (I beat hundreds of thousands of people to end up in that spot!) / French kissing giraffes in Nairobi, Kenya. / Beautiful coasts in the Big Sur in California. / Sneaking up to a rooftop bar of a five-star hotel at night at the Bund in Shanghai. / Sunrise and sunset over Ayers Rock in Central Australia on New Year's Day, 2014. / Continent hopping :)...I'm so blessed and I am thankful for a pretty amazing life so far! And the list is to be continued! :)

Teach, Learn, Share

I think learning is a mutual activity that would naturally take place when open minds converge with sincerity and attentiveness. :)
