About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Spend the next year in Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

ABOUT ME

Grew up in a small town, never did much traveling until my last job where I traveled for sales. Still traveling for business isn't quite traveling, but it helped expand my perspective on the world...BTW it's huge! So I decided I wanted to see more of it.

I started doing online marketing consulting as a side hustle and finally took the plunge, quit my job and moved to Costa Rica in October 2014. I work pretty much full time, but the nature of work allows for flexibility in my location and hours.

I plan to spend one year in Costa Rica. Call it a third life crisis, call it escaping, call it an adventure...maybe it's all of the above. But really I just wanted to remove myself from the little box I spent the first 29 years of my life in.

I have full intentions to move back to Oregon, where I grew up. It is an amazing state and I love it more every time I leave it. But just in case it's not all I think it is I best make a few more comparisons, right? ;)

Pura vida!

PS If you are in Costa Rica between Oct 2014 and Oct 2015 message me on here or send me an email, always looking to make friends.

PHILOSOPHY

I have a mantra I try to follow everyday and it's quite long, but if I had to sum it up in a few lines...

-The best parts of life (success, happiness, relationships) are all on the opposite side of fear.
-Life is about relationships and relationships are bank accounts. Deposit more than you withdraw.
-"The opposite of happiness is not sadness...it's boredom." - Tim Ferris

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

To be honest I haven't had much experience on CS. Currently I am traveling so I can't really host, but I will be looking to surf some couches in between long term rentals here in Costa Rica.

I would also love to meet up with anyone that happens to be nearby. Check my blog for my current location in Costa or send me an email. I will try and keep this profile updated, but no promises.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books (so many it's easier just to check my list I have up here) -> http://www.jshdbrwn.com/library/

Movies -> trying to watch less TV/movies, but I can get behind any good action or sci-fi movie

Music -> anything, truly I will listen to almost any song and likely find some way to enjoy. But I do find myself listening to country, Dave Matthews and the John Butler Trio a lot.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm doing it right now...getting out of my box mentally and physically and spending the next year in Costa Rica.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach/Share -> Entrepreneurship, marketing and business...I live an breath this stuff. I love it and I love talking about it.

Learn -> Spanish! I'm in Costa Rica and desperately need to improve my language skills. "Donde esta el bano?" y "Yo necesito una cervesa por favor." Also, I would like to meet locals that can share the lay of the land and give the best tips on places to go and things to see. In my opinion visiting places is more about the attitude you go into the place with than the actual place you are visiting...locals tend to have a good grip on this.

Countries I’ve Visited

Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Germany, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States
