About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To engage in random conversations with interesting people in New York City while I search for a job and an apartment.

ABOUT ME

I am a 23-year-old college graduate (University of Illinois) and recent AmeriCorps volunteer. My Bachelor's degree was in Creative Writing, with minors in English and Cinema Studies. As such, I love to read, write, and watch and critique movies (especially foreign/indie pics).

My goal with this CS account is to meet interesting people and have odd, enlightening, and random conversations about everything. Also to buy myself some time in New York City (which I visited recently, love, and am determined to move to) as I look for work.

Interested in letting me stay? Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Hoboken are all good with me.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is that having personal philosophies is lame and pointless. I can't live my life based on a pithy quote from Ben Franklin or Edgar Allen Poe or Gandhi or the Dalai Lama. No one can.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At some point, I would like to have my own place in NYC and allow others to CouchSurf. For the time being, however, I'm looking to surf and not to host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couch surfed at four friends' places in Chicago last week. I find it interesting to understand people by seeing their living spaces.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

I was hit by a car in my sophomore year of college. It was one of the most surreal events I've ever experienced. Time slowed down . . . but it also went so fast. And afterwards I wasn't sure what to do.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think everyone needs to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey on the big screen. It is a sublime experience that can't be summed up in words. Just do it.

I know almost nothing about the manly arts of car maintenance, wielding firearms, and home improvement. I also have no desire to learn any of those. Well, except for the guns part. Those are kinda cool.
