ABOUT ME

This is a tough one. How about: persistent, energetic, generally organized, inquisitive, and ready to roll. A day spent hiking or backcountry skiing is a good one for me. I'm big in Japan, but short in the States. I design and sew my own back packs and several other items of outdoor gear. My knees are still holding up reasonably well.

PHILOSOPHY

Pay attention. Ask a lot of questions. Ride smart. Take chances, but don't be stupid. Keep the rubber side down. If you're going through Hell, keep going. Otherwise, enjoy.

Just getting started at this point. Had a great stay with Jason in Toronto - ask him about using smiley faces to work out a train schedule if you get the chance.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

Music: mostly electronica such as 9 Lazy 9, St Germain, dZihan & Kamien, toss in some Frank Sinatra, season with Johnny Cash, mix in a touch of Bach and Mozart, serve with quality speakers. Books: I tend towards non-fiction titles like The Song of the Dodo, The Blank Slate, Endless Horizons, and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, but who doesn't like East of Eden?

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Thru hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada. Paddled a kayak up the Inside Passage to Alaska. Rode a bicycle from the Arctic to the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

A mechanic recently told me: synthetic motor oils beat conventional oils in every category. If you run full synthetic your engine can still fail, but it won't be an oil-related failure. How long between oil changes? At least double what you do with conventional oils. 10,000 miles isn't unreasonable either.

I've been coming across more and more info, some of it from published, peer reviewed sources, pointing towards the long-term health benefits of eating a whole foods, plant based diet. This is pretty interesting since I've been a big fan of meat.
