To enrich the lives of disadvantaged children and make the world a kinder place.
I am a rogue do-gooder who mostly works with disadvantaged children. Every year I go to Managua, Nicaragua for a month or more to see "my kids" who live and work at the city dump(La Chureca). I also have former street kids in Mexico City and in April/May 2010 and May 2011, I have become an uncle of sorts for orphans in and around Leogane and Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Teaching juggling is my main tool for interaction but I have lots of kid skills. I actually get paid to teach juggling every summer at a performing arts camp about 3 hours north of San Francisco.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Working with poor children doesn't pay very well, (although I often get handed a plate of food) and I need very temporary housing from time to time in preparing for my volunteer trips. I seek people to talk to who are interested in what I do and I'm hoping that CS will help me build a larger base of logistical and emotional support.
I've surfed twice in Berkeley, California on my way to Haiti. I also found the GrassRoots United camp where I stayed last year through the Haiti group in Couchsurfing.
I just love teaching children (and grownups) how to juggle. I've also enjoyed playing chess most of my life. I love walking, and frequently do 4-8 miles a day if I have the time.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like Blues, Rock and Roll, some classical (Bach fugues and cannons)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I once spent 10 hours in a life raft in the Bering Sea.
I was a supernumerary in five performances of the opera Anna Bolena by Donizetti in my home town of Pittsburgh PA. Naturally I didn't have these experiences at the same time.
