About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travelling while figure out my next move.

ABOUT ME

Me? I'm a serial entrepreneur since my first business at age 14. That first one was probably my most successful:-) Now, for over a decade, I have a surf school / kayak tour / tour agency, and a daily transportation/shuttle service around Costa Rica and to the archipelago of Bocas del Toro, Panama, and San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. I recently brought on a partner and moved back to California. I like to surf but don't do it nearly enough. I've been known to play drums, but being a homeless hobo on the road, I can't keep a band. I used to be one of the funniest, fun-loving guys I know. I feel that I've lost that somewhere in some tragic collision with seriousness. I am making some moves in my life to get that back. I love travelling, so I'm trying to develop a plan that will let me work from anywhere in the world. I read. I find that I don't get excited for the party any more, but sometimes the party can be fantastic fun for me, despite my cynicism. I love, love music festivals, especially the kind with a bunch of improv hippie music, jazzed up rock/funk/fusion, bluegrass ass-shakin' grooves with a seriously un-serious exultant, uplifting audience vibe.

PHILOSOPHY

I don't have faith in anything, no answers, only questions, and I like that. The universe is an open book rewriting itself everyday with me at the center. If you put a gun to my head and said pick a religion, I'd have to say Buddhism or the eight limbs of yoga, but me and Buddha and the Hindi Gods, we have our fights, too. Ooooo, there is one thing I think I have faith in: energy. I know that energy exists. Maybe that's why I like wind and waves so much; you can feel the energy, you can ride it, you can mix yours with it. I can give it to you and you can give it to me. The more you give, the more there is. Yes!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to host people and I want to couch surf when I travel. I want to meet locals in the places I visit. I want the inside scoop. And likewise, I enjoy giving the inside scoop so much, I made a career out of it!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed my fair share of couches and loaned out my couch several times over the years, before CouchSurfing.com came on the scene. This usually involved some sort of musical event. Fun times! And actually I have hosted a few couchsurfing.org members with my very active ex-gal, but I was on her profile, didn't have my own.

Interests

I'm interested in learning some new languages before I die, and I want my Spanish to get better. I'm thinking about studying again, getting a masters maybe, but I don't know in what. I'm just interested in learning something. I'm interested in spending a winter in some European Alps and ski a ton. I'm interested in working on a boat for a season or two, maybe around the Mediterranean. Building a new business plan holds most of my interest these days, Practising Yoga inspires me, as does surfing. I think they are very alike, and I think a surf competition is as silly as a yoga competition, both bordering on oxymoronic. I like to write. And I like developing business ideas.

Music, Movies, and Books

Pillars of the Earth is the book that made me realise that I like reading, so it will always top the list of my favorite books. And historical fiction has remained my favorite genre. History intrigues me, and the fiction brings it to life.

I have had more fun at String Cheese Incident shows then just about anything else, so though they aren't my most admired musicians or song writers, they go down as my favorite if I had to choose.

I haven't had a TV in the last 30 years or so, but in the last couple years I discovered streaming, so now I waste way to much time watching episode after episode. I just finished 13 Reasons Why. Brutal.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Yoga Teacher Training. Wow!

Well, for one, I can touch my nose with my tong. I know, you're saying, "Big deal!" But hey, can you do it? I didn't think so. You might also be saying, "Ooooo, gross," and you'd have a point.
