To share hiking adventures, my knowledge of smart grid power systems, and find really good jazz clubs
I'm an active and energetic guy who is trying to make a living through consulting on energy efficiency and smart grid projects. I'm currently writing professional research papers on power grid issues, starting an energy efficiency company, and then I'll be back at Cornell in a year to do my PhD!
I'm big on outdoor activities, biking, and exploring the city. Recently I've been going to a lot of break dancing battles in the city (spectator :-/ I wish I could do it!), operas, and have been biking all over Manhattan. I've had my bike stolen twice here in the city, so now I have a ridiculously thick and heavy bike chain.
Also, I'm fairly accepting of people from all walks of life. Everyone has their own story, upbringing, and view of the world--you can't really judge anyone until you walk in their shoes, and you can't really understand someone until you hang out and listen to their story! On that note, I enjoy meeting people from all over, my friend group reflects my beliefs :)
Live life as you please, and be respectful of everyone. Go forth and explore the world, and never give up on yourself. Oh, and put 100% of yourself into what you do, it's the only way to feel real!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Just started! I've got a lovely apartment in NYC, going to have it put to use until my lease ends in July :)
I've couch surfed through mutual friends, nothing on this website. Its how I lived for 2 weeks in Boulder, a week in LA, Maastricht (Netherlands), and a few days in Miami :)
Lots of soccer, biking, hiking, and racquet sports. I used to play a lot of trumpet and was in a jazz band, but recently that has been shelved...i promise I'll be playing it again one day.
I do a lot of technical reads, then burn out, and then read philosophy, novels, and recently some war stories--my last book I've read is "Another Day of Life", by a Polish author. He flies into Angola in 1975 on the even of Angola's independence from Portugal. Intense writing!
Music, Movies, and Books
My top two bands are The Who and Ludacris haha. I listen to a lot of jazz (like parker, dizzie, etc...), house music (deadmau5, daft punk, etc..), classical (particularly into organ versions, like bach's organ blaster cd), classic rock, and some old school country.
For books! Advanced Engineering Mathematics is good, Robinson Crusoe (boy was that kid unlucky!),
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I forded a raging river in norther california, and my pants fell off...there were quite a few people around. Don't worry, I caught the pants :)
Teach, Learn, Share
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was so right about taking a towel wherever you go, it's useful as a blanket, towel, pillow, sack, and whip!
If you're interested in smart grid/cleantech stuff, I have a decent breadth of knowledge about these issues. I've also done a fair amount of home construction, its always fun to know how to put up a roof, fix a toilet, or replace a kitchen completely :)
Oh, and brick laying, that is really difficult!
