About Me

Friendly medical student from London from a mixed Pakistani-British background. I love getting to know new people, perhaps relaxing over a couple of drinks. I am passionate about travel, jazz and the arts but can strike up a conversation about pretty much anything.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's a cheap way to travel and allows me to meet some truly interesting people and share experiences. It's these kind of interactions that really define a trip abroad, something you cannot get in a soulless hotel room.

Interests

Anything to do with the arts (architecture, opera, ceramics, experimental Bulgarian hip-hop) or anything that stimulates my brain. My ideal evening would involve going to the theatre or an exhibition, then grabbing some drinks with friends, perhaps finishing the night at a jazz bar until the early hours of the morning.

Music, Movies, and Books

My music taste has changed quite considerably over time so I have an appreciation for most genres. However, at the moment, contemporary classical music and jazz are the things that excite me, particularly Bill Evans.
I'm a fan of old school movies, the kind produced by Hitchcock, Kubrick or Welles, but I do also enjoy more lighthearted ones, like Mean Girls or Black Dynamite!
Books is a tough one. Again I am going to be pretentious and suggest a classic, The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells. However, I do read a lot of non-fiction, particularly stories of explorers or other travel writing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have just come back from cycling 3500km across Central Asia for two months and seeing I wasn't much of a cyclist beforehand, I'm pretty chuffed with myself.

Teach, Learn, Share

Growing up in London, you are constantly surrounded by people from different cultures, something that I feel may have inspired my addiction to travel. I am very much the kind of person who wants to absorb as much information about these differing cultures and so I hope I would be able to learn a lot from my hosts and perhaps be able to exhibit the cultural peculiarities of an Englishman.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a pretty chilled guy so I love nothing more than just sharing stories about our travels and learning more about one another.
