About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Spain

ABOUT ME

I moved to Spain last February in hopes of finding a job and improving my Spanish … and it’s panned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve spent my time here finding random English teaching positions and moving around Spain to various cities and pueblos. However, meeting and getting to know Spaniards and foreigners alike has enriched my experience the most and truthfully been the reason that I’ve enjoyed Spain so much. Like most people on this website, I love traveling, learning about new cultures, trying new foods, and talking to people from different backgrounds. I think Couchsurfing is a beautiful website that has allowed me to connect with so many kind and interesting people throughout my travels… and led to so many experiences that I know I wouldn’t have had otherwise.

PHILOSOPHY

"I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming." Haim G. Ginott

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Living in Spain was the first time that I started using Couchsurfing. Coincidently, almost all of my friends in this country are people who either hosted me or who I met through couchsurfing intercambios/ events. Unfortunately I have not been able to host surfers yet due to the nature of my travels. I hope to pay this back when I have a stable place to stay ☺

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I’m so glad that I created an account when I came to Spain; this website has been a really wonderful way to get to know people in foreign cities.

Interests

I’m a really active person and love hiking, biking, camping, working with children, and cooking. I think the beaches in Spain are BEAUTIFUL and I equally love the mountains here… especially the Sierras close to Granada. Couchsurfing has also introduced me to some amazing cooks who taught me how to make a few traditional Spanish meals. I spend a lot of time cooking and really love trying food from all over the world. I’m also a vegetarian and specifically love cooking healthy, meatless food☺ As I’m also sure most couchsurfers do, I absolutely love traveling and immersing myself in new cultures. Most of my time in Spain has been comprised of alternated months of working and then traveling throughout Europe, and I feel really lucky to have seen all of the beautiful places that I’ve visited so far and met so many great people in each place. I hope there’s never a time in my life when I will have to give this up or change this part of my lifestyle ☺

Music, Movies, and Books

I’m really not much of a t.v. or movie person, but I’ll occasionally watch documentaries. My favorite singer in the world is Josh Groban… I think he’s absolutely phenomenal and his music always puts me in a good mood. Apart from him my tastes are scattered – I like a lot of pop, especially oldies, and classic rock as well. I also really love live music… salsa, merengue, flamenco… really anything live is awesome. I also love reading but hate books with a slow beginning… one of my favorites is Marching Powder by Rusty Young… but I’m also a huge Harry Potter fan ☺

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Skydived. & I wish I could do it every day for a living.

Teach, Learn, Share

I think couchsurfing provides a great opportunity to enrich your lives with the culture and knowledge other people have to share with you. The only thing better than getting to know a city is getting to know the people of the city.
