Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
So, you're visiting Iceland, eh? Eða kannski býrð þú á Íslandi en er að ferðast? Don't blame you. I came to Iceland first in july 2011 and loved it so much that I moved here (from a certain conservative superpower which shall remain nameless ;) ). Now that I'm a bit more settled in, time to start hosting again. Please include the word "Páfagaukur" in the request so that I know that you actually read my profile ;)
To make it clear in case you're wanting to stay with an "Icelander": as much as I love my country, I am not a native, and nor do I qualify as "Icelander" from the perspective of citizenship. However I'd be glad to teach you some Icelandic (eða ef þú ert íslendingur þá geturðu kennt mér, lol!), take you around, and in general show off this beautiful country.
Ég elska nyja landið mitt. :)
*Update - hadn't changed my profile in a while*: Unless he feels like disappearing (lol - he's new to the couchsurfing thing and a bit shy!), my fiance Magnús will be here too. :) He grew up in Ólafsfjörður in the north. Also, he has two children, but they won't be here when you are (we won't be taking couchsurfers when they visit) - I mention that only to explain the childrens' toys in the plant room ;)
Before CS, I've had all sorts of random friends and acquaintances live with me for months at a time whenever they needed a place. Since then, I've hosted quite a number of couchsurfers (which has been a lot of fun!), and also did my first trip surfing with others (also lots of fun!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Stood on the wing of a plane 3 kilometers up.**.
Obama delegate to the Iowa state convention.
Fruited acerola and physalis a couple hundred kilometers from the arctic circle.
** -- Said plane was crashed on a 3km-high mountaintop ;)

Use fennel to make vegetarian dishes taste like they contain Italian sausage.
According to a DOE study conducted at PNL, even EVs charging from dirty coal power (let alone cleaner alternatives) are cleaner than gasoline or diesel cars -- for an equivalent vehicle, about 30% less CO2, the same SO2, similar NOx, vastly lower CO, vastly lower volatile organics, and so on. Only particulate matter increases (similar to switching to diesel). All pollutants are displaced from ground level city centers, where most ICE emissions are released. With clean power, EV transportation is completely clean. And the old battery problems are essentially all solved with modern automotive lithium batteries (phosphates, titanates, and spinels) -- very fast charges (as short as a few minutes if you can deliver the power fast enough), very long lifespans, very high power output, and so forth.
