I am a new couch surfer. Been to a few meet-ups recently in Chiang Mai, loved it. Hosting someone now and enjoying Songkran 2013.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Hosted someone (unofficially) through my boyfriends site in Salvador, Carnaval, Brasil. Started my page recently in Chiang Mai. Two meet-ups there, super fun. Now hosting a girl here on my comfy couch during Songkran.

I like the meet ups particularly when I arrive in a new city. THey have been good in Chiang Mai. If you're not staying in a hostel it's great.
