About Me

I am finishing my studies in Material Science at a small university in central Germany. Although science has been my life for far longer than I can remember, art, literature, and stories remain a passion of mine!

My friends tend to describe me as chirpy (if not mildly forgetful). German is my native language, and as I live in Germany, I don't get a chance to practice English as much as I would like.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have been wanting to travel. Yet, life has had a way of getting in the way of that. At first the reasons were trivial, I was too young, I didn't know where to go... but then the reasons became far more intercepting: School, Work, a lack of time...

I am now in a position where my life no longer restricts my desire to travel, and I have resigned to have 2017 be my year of resolve. This has been a dream of mine for so long, I can barely believe this is happening.

I heard about couchsurfing several years ago, and have met many new friends that have believed in it as a platform. To me, places are just places. It is in the people that live in those places that make them special. I am on couchsurfing because I cannot imagine being fulfilled travelling somewhere new, somewhere completely different, without the option of having someone help me interpret the culture through a lifelong understanding of it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I admit that when it comes to my stories, I enjoy a litany of magic and mystery. There are others of course, but my favorites include

The complete Harry Potter series
Howl's Moving Castle
Lord of The Rings
The Golden Compass

...and a handful of animes/mangas that round off the list

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Talked to a stranger. Every person has the possibility to open up an adventure, no matter how closed, or guarded they may seem. Every adventure unleashes a story unique to that moment, that person, that place. There is seldom any adventure worth telling whose origins didn't begin, even far removed, without a simple conversation with a stranger.

There is nothing more amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am not sure there is much I can teach, but I believe there is much we can all learn. I have been told that my baking is exceptional, although I half attribute this to politeness... so that is always an option, but realistically what we learn is very much effected by what it is we are open to learning, and who we learn it from. Often two different people will meet and both will leave having learned, taught, or shared completely different things based upon the situation. I am confident that I can teach, learn, and share a great many things... but those things are based solely upon the person I am teaching, learning, or sharing with.

What I Can Share with Hosts

As I am German, I can share what it is like to 'be german' and I'm always amused at the many nuances and stereotypes we as germans have. I can also teach the fundamentals of German grammar as well as proper pronunciation!
