About Me

I'm kate! I'm from a tiny island off the east coast of Nova Scotia, Canada. I've spent the last year preparing and saving money to travel some parts of the world. I've been living in South East Asia for a few months - currently arriving in the beautiful New Zealand.
I have a holiday working visa for a year, and i plan on seeing every inch of this magical piece of land, while gaining and offering positive relationships and friendships with both people and nature!
My goal is to take this year as a means of "free lance education" - putting my energy into others, hoping they do the same for me!
I plan on exploring the north island for a few months, picking up jobs along the way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've come to New Zealand not knowing a soul really. I've met folks along my travels in SE Asia who have since made it here. There's no better way of traveling than meeting the locals. It's always fun meeting other travelers, but the locals truly know all the gems, culture, history and music!
It also saves me a lot of money. I've saved up for the year, but things happen and money goes as fast as it came. I'm quite thrifty, but I've been working on living as minimalist as possible this year.
I also love hearing and sharing stories, seeing somebodies home is always a special thing.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm open to mostly all music. Pop Country is however the worst.
My favorite part about traveling and meeting new folk is the way pop culture changes and you're surrounded by new sweet sounds and your hips go all funny.
Currently (and always) - the talking heads are the soundtrack to my life.
I've started to get into more fiction reading. I've always stuck with educational, politics, plants etc. But since I've been traveling I've been reading fiction based books. It's a new world!
I'm always big on independent films, even if they do make you feel awkward.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've done plenty of amazing things! But i think my favorite one has been buying my one way ticket to the other side of the world! I'm living in it.

Teach, Learn, Share

The most magical thing about living is that we're constantly able to learn. The even more magical thing is that we're then able to share and teach others! My main goal is to share all the things I've been learning with others, in return of even more knowledge. It's like a really big circle that never ends, only a very fun one, with a new skill or experience every time you go around, picking up new faces and lovely places along the way - woOoOooOo

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a very friendly person (or so I believe). If you don't know a lot about Canada or SE Asia i can inform you on my experiences. I have a very positive energy and I'm keen on story telling. I would love to get to know as many kind folks as i can and enjoy being human with you!
I also would enjoy cooking and or baking with you. I'm a great assistant.
