About Me

explore more and read as much as I possibly can.

A lot interests me and I try to always be open to new things and ideas. I love to travel particularly as it allows this interaction with new people and to see different things.
I'm currently studying for a PhD in cultural geography but before now did sociology and am fascinated by people, philosophies and how the world works in different places.
I am half South African and have a real love for Africa, particularly after spending 6 months back packing across it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Surf whenever I travel, host when I have space/time.

My friend Katie and I couchsurfed through the south of france and had an incredible time meeting the most amazing and generous people. Hosted some lovely people in both Bristol and London - and made great friends.
Surfed through Europe when traveling by myself in Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague and Vienna, and with my brother down the east coast of USA. Always had a really great time - you get to know people so much better through CS in such a short space of time and what lovely people are out there :)

Music, Movies, and Books

I love a lot of different music.
Lately been listening to Noname, Frank Ocean, Sacred Paws, Fourtet, Miles Davis, Lauryn Hill, Rihanna, Mos Def, Nicholas Jaar, Guts, Sixto Rodriguez, Souls of Mischief, DJ Vadim, Debruit, Fatima and more. Last festival I went to was Dour in Belgium, it was super.

Some films I enjoy- Searching for Sugarman, Bombay Beach, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Django Unchained, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Capote, Shawshank Redemption, La Vie en Rose, Wasteland, Y tu mama tambien, L'Auberge Espangole, La Haine, Paris Texas, Psycho, Casablanca, Pulp Fiction, City of God, Spirited Away, What's Easting Gilbert Grape.. ok there are too many...

Books... where to start in terms of fiction one of my favourites is probably 'To Kill a Mocking Bird' Harper Lee. Love anything by John Steinbeck, Ryszard Kapuscinski or Haruki Murakami.
Other favourite authors include George Orwell, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Athol Fugard, J.M Coetzee, Alice Walker, Rahl Dahl, Zora Neale Hurston, Jack Kerouac, Toni Morrison, Vladimir Nabokov, Aldous Huxley, William Shakespeare... to name a few.

Non fiction... Karl Marx and Freidrich Engels, Homi Bhabha, Michel Foucault, bell hooks, David Harvey, Ed Soja, Susan Sontag, Paul Gilroy, Edward Said, Richard Sennett

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Teaching in a Malawian primary school to a class of more than a 100 children was pretty amazing. As was sky-diving over Plettenberg Bay at 10000ft and over the victoria falls.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach ...English maybe? tell stories, talk about music. Or if you want to know about sociology or geography... I want to learn things I don't know yet :)
