About Me

Hey! My name's Katie and I'm 24 years old. I graduated college May of 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Spanish. I play the saxophone and also enjoy writing music! I studied abroad in college in Valladolid, Spain, where I did a lot of traveling. During those five months I traveled to many cities in Spain, and also traveled to Dublin, Ireland; Munich, Germany; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Santorini, Greece; and many cities in Morocco, Africa.

My family and I have always been big travelers, especially since we have family in many states across the U.S. My first time leaving the country was when I was when I went to Belize for an Ecology Club adventure! Ever since then I had the travel bug :-) My next excursion outside of the country was again in high school when I went on a tour throughout Europe, visiting: Lucerne, Switzerland; Rome and Venice, Italy; London, England; and Paris, France. My upcoming travels include: Los Angeles, California; Denver, Colorado; Seoul, South Korea; and Costa Rica.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined couchsurfing because I've heard plenty of amazing things about the site! I absolutely love traveling, and since not many of my friends are able to join me, I like to keep things inexpensive while also getting to meet new people. To me, traveling is amazing to see and do things that you've never seen or done before. But at the same time, making connections with people is what life is all about! And I love making and sustaining those connections throughout life.

Music, Movies, and Books

It's hard to be specific when it comes to my favorite things. When it comes to music, I love jazz, classical, R&B, funk, soul, folk, among many others. I love being introduced to new artists and styles of music--I rarely find music that I don't enjoy in some aspect.

As far as movies, I have a wide range of interest. I love everything from documentaries and/or documentary series such as Neil DeGrasse Tyson's "The Cosmo's" to raunchy humor such as "This Is The End." I like romantic comedies, action, comedies, documentaries about ecology, the universe, animals, food, pretty much anything!

And same goes for books. I am mostly interested in reading books now that I can learn something new. For example, I just finished reading a music psychology book, and now I'm reading Miles Davis's (famous jazz trumpet player) autobiography. I also enjoy reading the classics such as Pride and Prejudice, and Tom Sawyer.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I think one of the most fulfilling experiences I've had was when I went to Morocco with a few friends. We were talking to a boy in the streets of Marrakech (in broken Spanish) when he ran into his house. He brought up his mother, who was dressed in traditional Moroccan clothing. She told her son to invite us inside. So, feeling a little nervous, the four of us decided to enter the house. It was beautiful, and they were having a large gathering with family (all females and children). Immediately, the host brought us bread and an array of dipping sauces, bracelets, and traditional Moroccan mint tea. We could only stay for about an hour, but it was one of the best hours of my life. We sat there with the family trying to communicate--we only spoke Spanish and English, and they only spoke French and Arabic. It wasn't until towards the end of our visit that a few of the men from the family had returned, and they spoke fluent Spanish. So they had invited us over for Couscous the next day for dinner, which we unfortunately had to decline since we were on a tour. It was magical to see such beautiful human beings in the world--people who would open up their home to complete strangers, not even being able to speak the same language. THAT is what life is about! :-)

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm not sure what I could teach...I suppose English/Spanish if you care to know more about the language! Or I could teach you to play the saxophone, piano, clarinet, or flute if you own those instruments!

I am always interested in learning new things. Especially customs and languages and new cultures. I also love to cook (not good at it) and like to learn new recipes.

As far as sharing, I think getting to know each other would be the best way to find out what we can share together! I love sharing deep and meaningful conversations about the world, sharing music with others, and pretty much anything! I just love learning new things!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a very clean person, and I would never leave a home dirtier than when I arrived. I am considerate of house rules, and of course very appreciative of being able to spend time at someone else's house. I can share my "knowledge" of cooking (which isn't much! But I do enjoy making food), and would gladly help with household chores. I also wouldn't mind taking the host out for a meal or coffee or a drink in exchange for letting me sleep at their home! And I can share any of my life experiences, especially when it comes to traveling :-)
