About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Make it out of Europe alive, but to do some crazy exploration while I'm here. :)
ABOUT ME
My name is Kayla.. I am always at a loss for words when I write in these little white boxes, but I am (hopefully) much more interesting when you actually meet me in person. I am friendly and open-minded; I can be a little tense when I am uncomfortable, but I warm up really easily. I love languages and I like to travel. I want to change the world someday, though I don't yet know in what way I will do that. Or at least, I want to improve the life of one person.
PHILOSOPHY
Simply put - we humans are more similar than we are different. You've got to look past the obvious, and find the deeper, hidden connections.
I live my life to prove that I can live it well.
I just try to do the best I can, try to honor each and every person for who they are, flaws and all. Unfortunately, it's really easy for me to lose sight of that. But, with time, I am learning.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm brand new, so I don't really know that I can honestly say that I am a participant. But I would love to be able to share any aspects of American culture, or of my own experiences in general, with others, and hopefully in the future offer a couch of my own.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have had absolutely none. I am looking forward to getting started! I have a friend who is a CouchSurfer, though, and she has just loved it. It sounds like such an awesome way to get to meet people and to really become acquainted with a new place. It's a way to avoid the tourist traps.
Interests
People... nearly anything relating to people. Our biology, our history, our common humanity. I love languages, building bridges (figuratively, haha, I cannot say that I have a future in engineering), learning about different places. Gymnastics, watching television, going on walks, reading, writing, psychology, paper crane making.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like all sorts of music - from the popular stuff (though it kills me to admit), to Celtic folk music, to classic rock, to Elliott Smitih, Death Cab for Cutie, and Tori Amos. I love American Beauty and Garden State. Books: Rubyfruit Jungle, Things Fall Apart, and Catch 22. Among others. :)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I think one of the coolest things I've ever seen was a distant lightening storm from an airplane. It was just constant flashes of light; it looked like a sci-fi film.
Teach, Learn, Share
I speak English fluently. And I want to learn other languages. :)
I know quite a bit about gymnastics, though there's no way I could coach anyone. I know a little bit about feminism and psychology; I've accumulated random knowledge here and there. I'm willing to some - or a lot! - of exchange.
