About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To rank the sleepability of various brands of couches.

ABOUT ME

I'm 24 and just moved to Portland, OR from Washington DC. I was wwoofing in McMinnville (about 40 miles SW of Portland) all summer because I'm really interested in food systems and food justice. Oregon seemed like the best place to learn about sustainability and food, so here I am!

I'm a really laid-back, friendly type who likes going to concerts, riding bikes, swimming, puzzles, chick peas, vintage/thrift shopping, naps, playing a little guitar, and traveling, of course!

PHILOSOPHY

"There's only one rule that I know of, babies—God damn it, you've got to be kind." -Vonnegut

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Just joined CS when some accommodation plans fell through at the last minute! Hoping to see how some of you experts do at hosting, and when I get settled somewhere that I can return the favor, I absolutely will.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've heard that it's not nearly as weird or creepy as it sounds. I got a free mattress off of Craigslist, and that wasn't as weird as I expected so I have high hopes for this!

Interests

Indie rock, vegetarian food, reading, unique shoes, playing guitar, naps, the environment, science, history, photography (I'm terrible but hopefully improving!), gardening, writing, riding bikes, having fun, hard cider, making jokes....

Music, Movies, and Books

Rilo Kiley, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Kate Bush, Johnny Cash, Jukebox the Ghost, Spoon, Beirut

The Handmaid's Tale, The Omnivore's Dilemma, etc etc etc don't even get me started on books. I love them.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moving to France for 9 months was pretty amazing! It forced me to mature in a way I hadn't yet, and to step outside of my comfort zone and meet new friends despite being terribly, terribly shy. I also had the great opportunity to travel around much of Italy and France, as well as other countries in Europe, just because I was based there. Working in a high school with teenagers was its own weird adventure. I'll gladly be the ambassador of American culture to these kids, but only if they continue to have hilarious ideas about Americans' politics, eating habits, and musical preferences.

Teach, Learn, Share

Exchange! I speak French, play a little guitar, and am an expert at finding free activities.
