About Me

Survive winter

Hi! I'm Kenza, although people don't seem to like calling me by my easy two-syllable name. I've been called everything from Kansas to Mowgli to Pretzel. I have a few goals in life:

-grow & learn continuously (if I don't feel like I'm doing at least one of those, it's usually time for me to do something else or go somewhere else.. perfect excuse for adventures)
-collect as many great memories as possible
-if I could train myself into being less clumsy, that'd be great too

I was born & raised in the Dominican Republic, moved to Canada for university & shenanigans in 2009, and since 2013 I've been travelling & moving about. I like strong coffee, happy people, good books, wild adventures, and long runs.

Basically, do what makes you happy, be nice to people, and be the kind of person you'd like to meet.

'You have one life in which to do everything you'll ever do. Act accordingly.'

'All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make, the better.' - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

While living in two sharehouses (the Batcave in Vancouver and Crunchy Town in Melbourne) I hosted countless surfers & loved it. I've made some lifelong friends thanks to Couchsurfing, and it contributes to an amazing feeling of community spirit.

Scuba diving, astronomy, running, psychology, neuroscience, hiking, reading, writing, climbing trees, and exploring construction sites, caves, & abandoned places. I also spend too much time wishing I had a dog. (Update, I now have a dog and he's fantastic.)

Music, Movies, and Books

I love books -- The Book Thief, Lucas, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Uglies series, Hunger Games, the Giver, Speak, the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Song of the Lioness series, anything by Bill Bryson, A Wrinkle in Time, Of Mice and Men… and many more I'm likely forgetting about.

I like music but am not all that picky when it comes to genres/artists. I have an undying love for Blink 182 & I like dubstep/electronic music when running and dancing. One friend says everything I listen to sounds like it belongs in a commercial, so take what you will from that.

Movies are great but I have trouble keeping awake/still long enough to finish them. A few good ones: Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Death at a Funeral, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Juno, Tangled, Fight Club.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've hung out with a bunch of monkeys, swam with dolphins and nurse sharks, scuba dived in shipwreck, experienced Yi Peng in Chiang Mai; been in a cathedral carved into a salt mine, road tripped through the States, watched baby turtles crawl into the ocean, sailed around Vancouver Island, and cliff jumped in Vancouver.

Teach, Learn, Share

I grew up in the Dominican Republic and speak Spanish (albeit not great after being away from home for 4+ yrs now).

I'm vegetarian and was vegan for a couple years (trying to inch my way back there), and I'd like to move towards a more sustainable/eco-friendly way of life. I'm into recycling, gardening, dumpster diving, and biking.

I'm also pretty good at games.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook you a vegetarian meal, teach you to play some cool games, and if you have pets I will happily walk your dogs and scratch your cats' bellies.
