About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Experiencing the world through exploration! (And working on my German)

ABOUT ME

I'm especially interested in the people and places along the Baltic Sea, but like meeting people who've done interesting things, and when it comes to good stories, CSers never disappoint.

PHILOSOPHY

I'll admit I stole my philosophy from those little signs in parks: Leave this place better than you found it. I hope to make more of a positive than negative impact on this world, however small. If I can just make up for all the resources I consume, I'll be happy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've mostly been hosted, but would like to show people around Berlin, even if I can't often offer a couch at the moment.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

All positive! I've done a fair amount of Couchsurfing as a guest and host, attend the occasional CSing meeting, and would be happy to show people around Berlin.

Interests

Dancing, baking, biking, most things Finnish, German, or Estonian, Kiribati, maps, urbexing, and reading.

Music, Movies, and Books

I can't really describe my musical tastes very easily (as is the case for almost anyone!), and have a harder time with movies.

Okay then, how about books? Fahrenheit 451 and The New Yorker magazine have both been instrumental in my life, and Catch-22 is probably the best thing I've read. As for authors, I'm fond of Ray Bradbury, Kurt Vonnegut, David Sedaris, Bill Waterson, and George Orwell. I spent a lot of my childhood reading older science fiction, assorted histories, and dystopian fiction, and sometimes still do. https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/21999160-kevin

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once danced the Hora with a thousand Germans in a church in Berlin (and later did the same with a smaller crowd in Estonia).

I also met two CSers at a friend's CS event in Tallinn, and spent the next day hiking with them and a good friend through the possibly-haunted ruins of a Soviet naval base, and once caught the aurora borealis at a CS barbecue in Tartu.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd mostly like to share both my culture, and the cultures of places where I have lived. At some point during a visit, I'll probably excitedly summarize at least one article from The New Yorker.

I can also bake and dance (simultaneously, if need be), and have been trying to evangelize the wonders of Baltic chocolates.
