ABOUT ME

Hello Couch Surfing World! I'm Kevin, a perpetual student, currently doing a Masters degree in English Literature in Oxford. So as you might guess, literature and poetry are where it is at for me, but I'm also just passionate about all the arts: film, music, painting, theatre, the lot.

PHILOSOPHY

I sounds a bit silly I know, but I guess I believe that there is nothing more important than art and culture, and using human creativity to expand our experiences and help others. Materialism, consumerism, lives driven by money - don't even get me started....

I'm new to Couch Surfing, so I guess I'm just going to try it out and get a feel for it!

None so far, but hoping for as much as possible.

Interests

My big love is literature; some of the many, many authors I love are Joyce, Beckett, Prynne, Cormac McCarthy, Doris Lessing, Basil Bunting, Blanchot, Roth, Kerouac, David Foster Wallace...I could go on!
I'm also hugely into modern and contemporary art and photography, some names here: Lewis Baltz, Douglas Gordon, Donald Judd, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Rineke Djikstra, Nam June Paik, and so much more. So anyone who can show me around their local art scene is bound to be my friends!
I also worked for many years as a cheesemonger, and I'm passionate about local organic food and the Slow Food movement, so I'm wanting to taste and travel as I go.

Music: house, techno, classic old school soul and disco

Books: see above, but it would be hard to find one I wouldn't read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing things I have done in my life are make the wonderful friends that I have. But if I had to list I would say studying in Oxford at the moment has been pretty awesome.

Teach, Learn, Share

I guess I can offer a passion about art and literature, and an infinite amount of novels, plays and poems to recommend. Oh, and cheese, that is something I know lots about, and will be happy to give anyone interested the basics of cheese loving over dinner!
