I'll be travelling through New Zealand until the end of October 2016. I heard about couch surfing from another WWOOFer at a farm, thought I'd try it out after hitting a snag trying to find a hostel.

I'm a good cook and baker, so I will feed you something nice when I visit if you want.

It does provide an alternative to hostels, which are sometimes not great places to meet new people when you're a solo traveller. My current theory is that the ones that don't provide free WiFi AND allow you to have your own alcohol produce the best social interactions.
