Sobre mí

Canadian girl who has a deep love and appreciation for nature. I have my fair share of backpacking and hiking experience- but its been very limited to the trails and streets of Canada. My 2015-2016 adventure of Europe is something I've been waiting for since I first visited 4 years ago for a little over 3 weeks but it's an understatement to say I am so ready to explore more. Im outgoing and enjoy meeting new people- I am that kind of girl who will start a conversation about just about anything. I am open to new experiences always, whether it be food, language, culture- I am up for all adventures!

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

My degree in biology has allowed me the opportunity to attend grad school in British Columbia, Canada for my masters in Forest and environmental science. However- it gets better. I am spending my first year of my 2 year degree in Freiburg, Germany on an exchange. I made this account to essentially allow me to meet people and visit places that will enhance my upcoming 2015-2016 adventures.

Intereses

I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to botany (I am able to identify natural plant life...Latin names and all) and I guess this plays into my love for nature for sure. I enjoy cooking and baking, I sort of collect cookbooks and am an even bigger fan of indulging in my dishes- especially if it has anything to do with cheese. I am well versed in my fair share of book and movie references and a large variety of music genres. And, well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the fact that although I am well acquainted with different varieties of brews here in Canada, I am excited to see what Europe has to offer to add to my experience ;)

Música, películas y libros

I have quite a few liked books, but my favorite by far is 'Wild' by Cheryl Strayed. The book itself inspired my decision to take this adventure on and really connects with me for reasons of my immense desire to explore and learn from my adventure. Appreciate more. See more. Learn more.

Music is something I treasure very much in my life- as it has accompanied me on most of my hiking and backpacking adventures and I've learned to develop a deeper appreciation for lots of different genres from folk to jazz, edm to acoustic. It is impossible to indefinetly name my favorite artists as I fall in love with a new song or artist/band so often as I explore my way through music streaming sites.. nonetheless, a few bands/artists I really rather enjoy consistently include:
Alt-j, hozier, bon iver, mumford and sons, arctic monkeys, the black keys, beyonce, sons of the east, chet faker, sam smith, johny cash, ben howard, banks, odesza, sia, ellie goulding, billy idol, band of horses, chvrches, matthew and the atlas, adventure club, the naked and the famous, disclosure, and ms mr.

Algo increíble que he hecho

I've hiked to amazing mountain tops and trails in Canada, seen natural beauties in the places I've had the amazing opportunity to already explore in Europe and the US..but one moment in particular has stuck with me.

When I had the oppourtunity to explore Europe for a little over 3 weeks over several years ago I was lost on the streets of Beligum in the early morning of the day after I had lost sight of my friends. It was the summer prior to me leaving home for university- I was a very shy and closed off person prior to my trip and had realised after graduation how much I didn't experience as much as I could have because of this. I saw a quote spray painted on a wall along a street I was exploring- a Latin phrase, 'semper ad meliora.' I found out later that night it translated to 'always towards better things' in English and it struck me. Since I've grown from this experience of travel, but I'll never forget the way I felt as I adventured through those streets. It helped me grow into the person I am today- much unlike the person I was then I try and grasp every single opportunity I can. This phrase has earned its rightful place as my third tattoo and reminds me of that amazing experience.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

An adventure partner, a good conversation, an eating/drinking companion (I will try anything once), an abundance of random facts (which I've somehow managed to retain for no apparent reason), and a good laugh (whether it be at something I've done or will probably do being a Canadian in a foreign country).
