I am going to put this in our current mission as many people don't seem to actually read our profile. We do not host single night guests just passing through Wellington. As we both have corporate/office jobs our weeks are busy at the start so we don't generally host on a Sunday, Monday etc....
I am a first generation kiwi with a Irish father and a kiwi mother. Born in Wellington I have lived here my whole life. There is no other place in New Zealand I could live. Yes the South Island is very beautiful, as is a lot of the North Island but once you have done the bungee, jet-boat, hikes, cycles and seen the views a bit of culture is needed. Live music, theater, art great selection of food & beer its hard to want to live anywhere else. Not to mention the beautiful views of the harbor at night from the hill surrounding the city.
We enjoy cycling, mostly mountain biking, just feels so good to look at a amazing view at the top when you put in a lot of effort to get there. I have a road bike that lives in a spin trainer, but does get out to the road in summer. Wellington is a flat sporty little city surrounded by hills. You will find many people out running, walking or cycling the hills around the city. And what fantastic views.
Live your life and embrace your passions.
For me it is the dancing. I do circus to make the dancing safer. I cycle and do conditioning classes to make the dancing faster. Grab a passion, build it, feed it.
-We do not tend to host people who turn up late and leave on the ferry early the next day. We are not a hotel.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love to meet new people. Always feel great showing them around Wellington. One thing I love it teaching people to dance. Usually on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights there is a live jazz/swing band which are just fantastic to go dance too. Or just relax with a drink.
I have mostly hosted so far only stayed with a couple of hosts in the USA. Anyone who makes it to the NZ the other side of the world has to be interesting right? Though I have lost track of how many were LOTR fans.
I am getting a feeling that some people think Couchsurfing is a way to get a cheap place to stay before moving on. In particular single night requests where a surfer turns up late in the day and leave early the next day to catch a bus or ferry. Go stay at a backpackers if you don't intend to actually see Wellington.
Wellington is the 2nd biggest city in the country, our government is here not to mention TePapa the FREE national museum where you will see unique items and information about the country you wont get anywhere else.
On top of that Wellington leads the country with its coffee, craft beer and fantastic food. It is a small arty city and easy to get around by foot.
I am into personal development, be it physical or personal and always looks for sports and activities that build on my other interests not take away from them. I enjoy meeting people, traveling and teaching the dance styles I do.
Music, Movies, and Books
I like and enjoy all kinds of movies. Sometimes it is fun enjoying a silly scifi/action movie on the big screen. Other times something fun and silly like The Grand Budapest Hotel.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Amazing things, taking up Lindy hop and realizing the community is so friendly and huge world wide I can go anywhere and have fun dancing, even if English is not spoke.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love teaching people to dance. Wellington has so much great music, how could you not want to?
Oh top of the great live music Wellington has a fantastic Coffee and Beer culture. And in some cases both at the same time. I refer to Vodoo Queen, a dark beer produced in a joint effort between Flight Coffee & Garage Project Craft brewery. Quite a fantastic drop if you prefer your coffee & beer black.
Always fantastic doing a trip to the local breweries for a taste before picking up a fill-a-bottle and taking it home to share.
