About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Making life better, for ourselves and others

ABOUT ME

Mmm, not sure what to put here! Well I'm a single mum and have been all Bob's life so we're really close. It also means that our home is a curious mix of the grown up and the childish - and we kinda take turns at each lol! I've raised Bob to not accept authority blindly & occasionally feel the need to strangle him ala Bart n Homer as a result but it's worth it as he's a really smart, cool kid. I've been a stay at home parent for the last 8 years who has mostly not actually stayed at home but been out training or volunteering. I'm now a paid worker with a charity for lone parents but have interests in local community activity & trauma recovery agencies. Both Bob & I have appeared on tv promoting social inclusion & tackling poverty as well as tackling our own finances by appearing in ads & tv series as extras. The third member of our family is our gender confused tomcat Lily Savage, told he was a she when we got him/her we got used to calling him her and he/she got used to being called Lily. By the time we realised our mistake it was too late so we added Savage on to Lily to make up for it. One of the first things he did was kill our Peace Lily Steve after whom we'd named him - probably in revenge

PHILOSOPHY

Atm making NOW the best it can be without worrying about the future or what happened in the past is about as close as I've got to a personal philosophy but you could add in that possessions own you not the other way round is something I believe too despite being a bit of a hoarder
Bob says - this is all getting v annoying let's go get some hot chocolate - which imo is an even better philosophy ;)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We've just joined so we're still finding our feet - atm we're happy to chat online & meet up for coffee with folks visiting Belfast, perhaps treat to lunch or a homecooked meal beyond that we'll see how we feel down the line a piece

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Pre being a mum I travelled more & have found myself without money or place to stay on a couple of occasions & have 'always relied on the kindness of strangers' of course now I'm a parent I think omg what the hell was I thinking but it was fun at the time and nothing untoward happened

Bob in his short time on this earth has couchsurfed so many times he has his own toothbrush at at least four other houses lol

Interests

Like I said above our home is a bit eclectic - toys, PS2, dvd's abound as do books on social policy, history, mental health, lone parenting, cooking, dinosaurs & natural history. Bob likes Star Wars so we are the local nutters light sabering our way down to the local shop. In return I introduced him to climbing trees, horror films & dining out.

Music, Movies, and Books

Have a gander at our interests & add most animated films, anything with Patrick Stewart in it, Monty Python & most films with bum related jokes aka Dumb & Dumber et al.
Music wise, practically anything - you're as likely to hear opera in our house as to see us bouncing around to kids tv theme tunes & Weird Al is a star in our opinion :)we also have singstar & listening to a bunch of little kids singing Johnny Cash is nearly as funny as watching a bunch of grown up fighting over a mic
Bob likes mostly factual books about prehistoria & natural history, me I just like books - any genre at all so we've got lots - if I ever get enough money together for a house of my own I fully intend to have a library room with books covering the walls ala Sherlock Holmes

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bob - doing a back flip on a bungee run
Kiz - surviving life so far, with getting stranded in Caracas with no money & subsequently getting lifted by the cops running a close second

Teach, Learn, Share

Conflict management, diversity, life coaching, social policy, everything you ever wanted to know about lone parents here in NI & also in a number of countires in Europe, bit of Spanish, bit of surrealist art/poetry, basic crochet, knitting & lots of other little things like wiring plugs, budget cooking & the history & social influence of the potato (actually bordering into an obsession at this stage)
Light saber fighting, all about dinosaurs & a lot about natural history - also willing to teach the uninitiated how to kick ass on the PS2
