About Me

I’m originally from the East Midlands in the UK. I taught English in Korea from 2004-07, the the Czech Republic in 2008 and the UK in 2009.

I returned to Korea in 2010 and I have been here since then. I work as an assistant professor at a university, where I teach English, as well as freelancing as a proofreader, copy editor and occasional writer for publishers, magazines and businesses.

I’m currently reviewing my future in Korea, as I look to transition from teaching into the publishing and writing field. I’ll certainly be here until the spring of 2018.

When I'm not working I enjoy music, travel, good coffee and photography - I’m an avid Instagrammer and trying to get better at shooting with my new Canon mirrorless. As I get into my later thirties my tolerance for hangovers has diminished, though I still enjoy going out for dinner and drinks. I like a stiff GnT and a good bottle of red. I also enjoy reading and like nothing better than to chill out with headphones on and some good articles or a book.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have little to no experience, to be frank. I joined many moons ago thinking that it might be a good way to get to know new people while travelling, though it never came to fruition. But with my experience and knowledge of living and working in Seoul for so long, perhaps I can use this as a way to help people enjoy their time here or learn more about the city.

Music, Movies, and Books

Not really into movies that much; I might see a movie of a book I’ve read sometimes.

I enioy literature of the 20s and 30s thanks to studying modernism during my degree. I’ve been rereading Evelyn Waugh this year. Always enjoyed a bit of F Scott Fitzgerald, and I’m taking tentative steps into reading Hemingway... I also enjoy travel writing, nonfiction and autiobiographies too.

Music's the biggie. I won't put a big list on but I always say I love anything with a tune as I don't really discriminate on genres - if it makes me happy/sing along/dive onto the dancefloor then it makes it onto my iPod. Can be anything - 60s Northern Soul, jazz, soul, funk, rock, pop, indie, R&B, metal.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, Cambodia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United States, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
