Not all who wander are lost
Hi! My name is Kristen Zeis and Iâm a 24 years old. I'm from the United States and came to Denmark after completing my bachelors degree in May 2012 to Aarhus, Denmark to study photojournalism on scholarship at the Danish School of Media and Journalism. After completing the year program I am currently on my journey back to the United States but before my year abroad comes to an end I'd like to make some special memories throughout Europe.
If you asked my friends about me it's hard to think about what they'd say, but my guess would be that it would be something about how genuine I am. One of my closest friends tells me all the time that I'm 'too nice' because I literally can get along with everybody, she's from New Jersey and says that I need to go live there for a few months and I'll learn to be mean.
They'd probably also say something about how I love to talk...being an American in Europe I've had some really interesting conversations with people that I've met about the similarities and differences between my life here and my life at home. Generally, I'm pretty open and always willing to listen.
This is my first time out of the country, so it's been an adjustment to learn my way around in the most beautiful way possible. I'm loving the experience, so happy to be here and hoping to see as much of Europe as possible.
The Golden Rule: "Treat others as you would like to be treated"
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I was first introduced to Couchsurfing during a year of living abroad while studying at the Danish School of Media and Journalism while further pursuing my education. The couchsurfing experience for me while I travelled was so incredible- I will never forget the people that I was able to meet and the things I was able to do because of it.
Couchsurfing has brought me nothing but great experiences and positive memories. I love the open-minded mentality of the people that I meet and as a journalist, I'm always open to hearing about different cultures, experiences different ways of living and so much more. I love couch surfing!
I'm a photojournalist, so I love taking pictures the most. I also enjoy swimming, cooking/baking, arts & crafts, meeting new people and many other things. Overall Iâd say Iâm a pretty likable person and super easy to get along with.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
So many moments recently in my life that have left me awestruck.
Living in Europe for me has been a big one. It’s so easy to stay where we are our whole lives and get stuck in this little bubble and think that it’s how the whole world works. Coming to Europe and living in Denmark opened my eyes to so many new things. While I would consider myself an outgoing person and very open to new things, I can be a bit reserved at first, so being in Denmark and having so many new experiences all at once was great opportunity to push myself.
To name a few more-
-Being less than 50 feet from glaciers in Greenland that feed more water into the sea in a day than NYC uses in a year.
-Integrating into a Greek community for 2 months
