About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel Europe

ABOUT ME

My girlfriend and I are both easy-going, enjoy good humor, sociable and always up for an adventure. We both enjoy music, I personally play the guitar and I am in several different bands with music ranging from cool blues to heavy grind-core. When I'm not at school or work I typically occupy my time with studying, guitar or my other passion, snowboarding. I do my best to travel out of Oregon at least once a year for a snowboarding trip. On the mellower side of things I enjoy a good conversation with a cup of coffee any day of the week. We're both huge conservationists and will talk your ear off if given the chance.

Melissa is the artsy type, into painting, drawing, sculpture and photography; she's very talented. She very laid back and easy-going, dwelling in the latest coffee shops of Portland she's the type to find the best underground scene in place of residency. She has a passion for marine biology, animal rights and has an odd obsession with octopi. I'm fairly sure if given the opportunity she would spend the rest of her life in the ocean.

PHILOSOPHY

My philosophy is that the only constant there is in this world is that every thing will change eventually. Stay in the moment and enjoy life for all the idiosyncrasies that make it imperfect. These are the only things that allow you to enjoy perfection.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

This is my first experience with couch surfing and I'm hoping to break into the community.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None to speak of yet.

Interests

We both cover a large scope of interest but some commonalities in interests we share are philosophy, anthropology, psychology and generally trying to understand what it means to be intrinsically tied to the human condition.

Deep conversations over a good cup of coffee.

Delicious food.

We both have a passion for music and have a very broad taste, from Rachmoninov to Pink Floyd, from Beneath The Massacre to Stieve Ray Vaughn.

I personally am in love with guitar, I enjoy fishing and boating.

Melissa enjoys painting, vegan ideals and the ocean.

Music, Movies, and Books

As of late my favorite book would have to be Notes from Underground by Dostoyevsky, and Melissa is hopelessly in love with Kurt Vonnegut (well, his writing anyway) =) And, we both like pretty much any heavy read or dystopia novel. We like to pretend we understand the likes of Henry David Thoreau, Reuben Abel, Daniel Quinn, Thomas Hobbes, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Friedrich Nietzsche, Hermann Hesse, Ray Bradbury, George Orwell, Ayn Rand... just to name a few.

Movie: hard to say, Requiem for a Dream, Dirty Pretty Things, Crash, Seven, The Bully, Pulp Fiction, Drunken Master, Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Fist of Legend, Blood Sport, Enter the Dragon, Kung-Foo Hustle, Any and all of the Cowboy Beebop series, Samurai Champloo, Fooly Cooly, Pikachu's Vacation etc etc.

Mel's favorites include Little Miss Sunshine, The Science of Sleep, You and Me and Everyone We Know, Sleepy Hollow, Young Frankenstein, Howel's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, Thumb Wars, and any sort of documentary on marine life (especially on the deep or octopuses) or roman history.

Music: Determining a favorite band is more or less an impossibility for myself, it's like reversing entropy, it's just a little difficult. I can give you a top nine hundred..ish..
Anna Nalick, Alice in Chains, America,Arch Enemy, All Shall Perish, Bach, Brain Drill, Between The Buried and Me, Beethoven, BB King, Built to Spill, Beneath the Massacre, The Black Dahlia Murder, Brahms, Chopin, George Crumb, Eric Clapton, Cream, Chevelle, CrotchDuster, Cat Stevens, Circle Takes the Square, Converge, Dethklok, Debussy, Elliott Smith, Evanescence, Everclear, Eve 6, The Forgotten Archetype, Gorerotted, Gojira, Edvard Grieg, Floater, H-Tray, Haddaway, Incubus, In Flames, Into The Moat, Judas Priest, Michael Jackson, Jack Off Jill, Korn, Led Zeppelin, Lynard Skynard, Jason Mraz (his live stuff only), Mozart, My Dying Bride, Mindless Self Indulgence, Miles Davis, Maladaptive, Mirah, Marilyn Manson, Mastodon, Muddy Waters, N*Sync, Neil Young, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Pantera, Sergie, Prokofiev, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, The Police, Psyopus, Queen, Rachmaninov, Radiohead (the earlier stuff), Ray LaMontagne, Robert Johnson, Slipknot, System of a Down, Smashing Pumpkins, Soilwork, Soundgarden, Robert Schumann, Staind, Stieve Ray Vaughn, Sting, The Sea and Cake, Stone Temple Pilots, Styx, Sublime, Sugar Ray, Taize, tATu, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Ted Nudgent, Ten Years, Thornley, Tool, Waking the Cadaver, Wormed, Yo La Tengo, The Yardbirds, ZZ Top, Zinder,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seeing the sun set over the Rocky mountains. Night diving off the coast of Cozumel with a shotty flashlight. Petting a sea turtle in Cancun. Staying in a castle in France. Getting lost in the Badlands of Mount Bachelor for 3 hours.

Teach, Learn, Share

Actually LOOK at things because according to Robert Pirsig, "Familiarity can blind you too."

And always read and understand Kurt Vonnegut. He's amazing and says insightful things like "So it goes."
