About Me

Hey everybody my name is Kua and I'm 24 . I'm super new to couch surfing but I've heard good things about it and it sounds really interesting so I'm going to give it a try!
My dream is to see the world and write about my experiences. And I want to have a lot of amazing experiences and meet fun crazy people and also nice, calm, wise folks. I'm originally from the Bay Area but I moved to LA at 19 and from there I moved to NYC. I LOVE NYC! I think its the greatest place on earth sometimes but there are so many places I need to see and live in before I can make that claim haha. I've also lived in D.C. so I guess I'm usually more of a city girl.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to travel as much as possible to all the major world cities and all the off beaten paths. Make new and different relationships!
I kind of have a dream of living like Jack Kerouac for awhile and go from apartment to apartment meeting people, partying, talking about love and life. That's the dream. The first cities I want to visit are the major art cities and the ones that are starting to have a name for their new art scenes. On my list are Mexico city, Buenos Aires, Berlin, Puerto Rico, and there's also a city in Canada im forgetting at the moment.

Interests

I love to write and read the classics. I love art and meeting people in the creative field. So far my favorite city is new york because of all the wild crazy people out here!
I would love to take a tour through Europe first and then come back to the states again, make money, and head out toward latin America (mostly South) so thats my only goal in life right now. But I love to be out with people in Cafes and museums talking about beauty and art and how they shape our lives. Walking around the city at night with a good bottle of wine is one of my favorite things to do, and it only gets better in every city I'm in. I've had the most heartfelt conversations this way.
I also love hiking and going to gardens, I have a weird thing where I like to visit Mansions. There are a few in New York that are so Gatsby age its ridiculous! Or the Getty Villa in LA. So beautiful.
I love love love old movies. I mean old movies too, like before they had sound. But mostly the talkies. Especially film noir, its my favorite genre mostly because you have really strong female leads and they're much better than these insipid romantic comedies Hollywood keeps spewing out nowadays.

Music, Movies, and Books

My tastes in music is very eclectic. When I was 16 I was obsessed with Kpop and also korean soap operas. But they are too addictive so I kinda had to stop watching lol.
Now I've mellowed out and mostly listen to blues and jazz or anything inspired by it. My favorites are BB King (obviously right?), i love Nina Simone too. My favorite song of hers is "I've got it bad and that aint good" the first time I heard it I cried haha. I love classic rock (Crazy by Aerosmith is one of my faves) and then "Pour some sugar on me" is literally the best bedroom anthem! But I can only party to Hip hop! I dont know why but thats how it is! When I listen to pop it's usually cheesy hits from the 90s like "I'll be" by Edwin McCain. Its still one of my fave sonhs. Or Hero by Enrique Iglesias, I love the song and the video.
My favorite movies are always passionate love stories. I loved Original Sin with Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie eventhough it got really bad reviews. I love film noir classics like Gilda, tha Maltese Falcon and the Postman always rings twice with Lana Turner. I really like the glamour girls of old hollywood, I find it fascinating. I also love 12 angry men - I love a movie that has a smart, well written script that just keeps unravelling. Of course Casablanca too. I must admit I've seen Clueless with Alicia Silverstone about a million times. And also Soul plane was super dumb and super funny. Harold and Maude is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I laughed even thinking back on it days later!
My favorite novels are typically novellas. The Great Gatsby being at the top of the list. I am really invested in bringing back the novella, it's an amazing art form! Jane Eyre is one of the most intense experiences I've had with a story, so deeply moving from beginning to finish, I read it every other year. And The Unbearable lightness of being is one of my all time faves. I love how keen the insight into romantic relationships is in the novel, I'd be reading it and in the middle of a sentence just put the book down to really think about some of the things. It's an amazing intellectual experience. I like Kafka as well (when I can understand him lol). I don't usually like sci-fi but the Martian chronicles by Ray Bradbury stands out - I love his style of writing. I also love East of Eden by Steinbeck - the prose is so epic (the movie adaptation SUCKED). Right now I'm reading the Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, its so intense and this man is so gifted.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Still building my resume for an answer to this!

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach, learn, and share LOVE.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share a different way of looking at things and my open spirit, english lessons I suppose are always useful. But everything about me right now is about being young and open, travelling and having different experiences with different types of people. I love to have fun and my sense of fun is the thing I like the most about myself. I think any host would like that.
