Hello! I'm an undergraduate student at the University of Oxford, where I'm studying English Language and Literature. I grew up in Singapore, but moved to the UK last year for university, and shuttle between both places throughout the year. My interests include literature (of course), music, writing and photography.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Travelling has been a really transformative experience for me, and now that I'm older and have more autonomy over where I want to go and what to experience, I'd love to really get to know the soul and heartbeat of each country I visit, as opposed to wearing only really touristy lenses. University life has been incredibly fulfilling and exciting for me, and I'd love to see as much of the world as I possibly can alongside completing my degree. My boyfriend (my main travel buddy), who's also at Oxford, and I are looking forward to getting out and exploring! We have really similar interests, and are up for a great and exciting adventure no matter where we go.

On a pragmatic note as well, Oxford terms are very short, and about half the year is vacation time -- we get five weeks each for Christmas and Easter, and then three-plus months in summer! Due to the proximity of the UK to many European countries and the States, I want to make the most of the lovely weather and shorter travelling times to go to countries that will be harder for me to access from Singapore when I go back there to work in the future.

Music, Movies, and Books

- Pop is usually good, but I have a soft spot for 80s/90s hits!
- Country music is awesome.
- Generally a rom-com fan, but my boyfriend has introduced me to many great non rom-coms so I'm open to anything!
- Books -- love modern literature (esp. Virginia Woolf), any Asian literature (both in English and translated), short stories, modern poetry... pretty much anything with riveting characters and a great plot.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's hard to pin-point anything particularly special, but I've tried my hand at many activities - have a black belt in Taekwondo, was an active member of the school choir all my life and did a three-month teaching stint in a secondary school in Singapore.

What I Can Share with Hosts

- Always up for a discussion on literature, the English language in general (I promise it's not as boring as it may sound), contemporary music, reviewing movies and pop culture in general!
- I sing and play the guitar.
- If you'd like to hear it, I also can tell you lots about Singapore's culture and history (my native country), including Singlish (our creole) and food, and my boyfriend and my experiences studying abroad in Oxford, which is steeped in history.
- Of course, I also strive to be a clean and polite guest!
