About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm quite a naturally shy person, so my current mission is to overcome this and not to let it get in the way of me doing/seeing all the things I want to do/see in life!

ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Laura and I'm from the north of England :) I'm 23 years old and I'm currently living and working in Namyangju, close to Seoul, South Korea.

PHILOSOPHY

“20 years from now you will be disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the one’s you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -Mark Twain

Interests

I love reading, swimming, yoga and hiking. I haven't traveled a lot as of yet, but I'm hoping to do my TEFL in Thailand next year and I'm gunna use this as my passport to living in as many different countries as possible! One day I'd love to live in India, as I focused on Indian Literature for my dissertation and would love to experience some of the culture first hand. I also write a blog about my general observations of day to day life in Korea, which I've been told is quite funny :p Give it a read and tell me what you think! http://excitingmisadventuresesl.co.kr

Music, Movies, and Books

The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
Comfort Woman by Nora Okya Keller
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
A Thousand Spendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I once stayed in the Egyptian desert with a group of Bedouins. They have no electricity and live completely by a law of their own. We travelled there by camel (rather angry camels actually). There were candles everywhere and a campfire to see by. They cooked us a traditional meal, and taught us how to make their bread which they baked in a kiln and then afterwards they taught us the traditional dances. At night, we slept out in the open with no light but the stars.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can by no means speak Korean, but I've been studying a bit so if you're here for a short time I can teach you some useful phrases. I can also cook a few basic Korean dishes and instruct you on Korean etiquette in you're interested in learning those things :)
