About Me

Hi! I'm a graduate student studying Marine Biodiversity and Conservation at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego, California. My sub-focuses are in political communication and filmmaking. I'm originally from the Los Angeles metropolitan area, but worked in Washington D.C. for several years as a science writer for National Geographic. When I'm not working on films about ocean science, I make short films about surfing in Southern California.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As a student I'm pretty broke, but I like to travel around the States making short films. I'm currently working on my Master's thesis which is a short film about sea level rise in the Gulf of Mexico and what the community is doing to prepare for major storms and flooding.

Interests

As you've probably figured out, I have a pretty serious addiction to the ocean and the people who interact with it. Aside from that, cajun food, good ghost stories, tap dancing, Star Wars, jazz, WWII aircraft, summertime baseball games, surfing, and science illustration are part of long, random list of things that interest me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am an avid music festival roadie. My favorite genres are jazz, indie, Motown, Cajun and Zydeco, bluegrass, classic rock, funk, Mariachi, Celtic, and classic rock.

Movies? Star Wars, Indiana Jones, American Graffiti...anything with Harrison Ford in it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I accidentally tried out for So You Think You Can Dance and was on T.V...ask me about it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm lousy cook (that may have to do with being half English..) If you love to cook and don't mind me watching and learning, we'll be fast friends.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have an extensive and useless knowledge of the Myers Briggs personality test. If you want to find out which personality type you are and how it correlates to your skills, interests, personal and professional life, ask me!
