About Me

ABOUT ME

I think my friends would say that I am outgoing and energetic, and that I enjoy meeting new people and making friends. Making people happy makes me happy and I am at peace the most when everyone around me is enjoying their time and getting along. I also enjoy relaxing with a book or a movie, and usually need at least a day to recharge after long, busy weeks. I am a hard worker and like to stay organized, but balancing school and fun has never been hard for me. Adventure is the most important and exciting aspect of my life and I believe that it should never stop! As long as I have access to the outdoors and enough time to spend relaxing or with good company I am happy! I'm easy to please and am always open to trying new things.

Interests

The outdoors have always interested me and made me happy, particularly the mountains and the desert. Hiking is one of my favorite activities and I am always looking to find new gorgeous places to explore. Because I grew up with a lot of access to nature and wilderness, respecting the environment and trying to live with as little negative impact on the land is important to me. I love being around other cultures and always having different experiences, so being in a city is also good for me. At Seattle University, I study Non-Profit Leadership, so I am constantly learning about other parts of the world and which parts of the world need help. I enjoy working with children and women the most, and hope to pair my work with my travel someday. I was a classical ballet dancer for about 13 years growing up, and I don't think I will ever lose my love for the arts, particularly dance. As long is something is original or positive, it is interesting to me and I will want to learn more about it.

Mexico City Mexico - standing in front of the classical Basilica of the Virgin Guadalupe, watching a man crawl on his knees up the last few cobblestone steps left in his pilgrimage to the cathedral. A woman and another man held his arms to support him, as he was shaking in pain, taking a few moments rest in between each difficult step. Several thousand Mexicans make this pilgrimage each year, some crawling miles on their knees, all the way to the altar of the Virgin at the Basilica. The pilgrimage is made to repent sins, pray for a better life or for forgiveness, but above all, to show their love and devotion to the Mother of All Mexicans, Guadalupe.

Carnaval in Veracruz, Mexico - sneaking past police armed with machine guns and giant clubs into the center of the main parade at Carnaval with my friend Ray. We danced all the way from the start of the parade till the very end, in a sea of the loudest, friendliest, drunkest strangers and the most adorned, talented, done-up Salsa dancers I'd ever thought existed. We danced hand in hand to the beating drums under the bright stars, in the warm tropical breeze, covered in beer and glitter, with bigger smiles and with happier people than we could have ever imagined.
