surviving graduate school and staying sane
I tend to get obsessed with a subject and then stay on it for a long time before moving on to the next one. I find lots of thing interesting and enjoy sharing experiences with people, but also tend to be in my own world in my head and sometimes don't pick up on social cues. But I do what I can to remember everything and get everything done, and nothing has gone too horribly wrong so far!
languages, history, culture, philosophy, cognitive science, reading as many books as I can manage
Music, Movies, and Books
Music: Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, the Allman Brothers, Randall Bramblett, klezmer, older blues and traditional US music, bluegrass
Authors: one of my favorites is Jorge Luis Borges, and lately I've developed a minor obsession with Samuel Johnson.
Some of my favorite books are The Man Who Was Thursday (Chesterton), Don Quixote, Tragic Sense of Life (Unamuno). I recently read the Buru Quartet by Pramoedya Ananta Toer, which was excellent. I've been meaning to read more Russian literature (e.g. Chekhov, Babel, Dostoevsky) and classic works of Yiddish literature (e.g. Sholem Aleichem).

Teach, Learn, Share
I enjoy talking about all kinds of stuff and learning new things. I know a little bit about a lot of random subjects, and a lot about a few subjects (languages and computers, for example).
