Overview
About Me
I'm a little old lady in a young body; I love to birdwatch, read, and drink tea. Like most everyone else I also enjoy traveling and the outdoors. I'm a wanna-be naturalist (which is the only use I've found for that zoology degree!) with a lot of curiosity about everything around me. When I'm not trying to pay bills I enjoy building things and going new places.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
It seems like (in the United States at least) there is a growing culture of fear; we don't trust strangers, let our children wander too far into the woods, or feel free to explore. While it is good to be reasonably safe, sometimes we take it too far. I love the idea of choosing to open your home to a stranger with the only commodity exchange expected is that of mutual learning. I think it is an inspiring example of trust and generosity.

Music, Movies, and Books
I read everything except horror. I have an affinity for fantasy/science fiction (thanks Game of Thrones for making this acceptable now!), even though I recognize many of those novels are actually terrible. I like Russian novelists, David Eggars, Madeleine L'Engle, and anything by David Quammen.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I got 5 servings of vegetables in one smoothie. It was as disgusting as it sounds.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I know a lot of useless information, especially about anything ecology related, so I am a good conversationalist. I think the best thing that I have to offer is my curiosity. I like to listen and ask questions and explore new ways of thinking about things.
