About Me

Dominar Oceania, enquanto isso não ocorre conhecer pessoas

“Not all those who wander are lost.” – J. R. R. Tolkien

Two words that describe me are: Stories and Herpetology. Both describe the core of what I am in different ways.

Stories are my passion: I really love stories in all its forms (be it Books, movies, comics, TV sitcoms, a RPG session or Bar Talk) and when I´m not living my own story I spend a lot of time with the story of others (usually reading books).

Herpetology because is my chosen field of work, and how I spend a lot of my time. I´m a biologist and really love my profession, that involves hunting frogs in tropical ponds and work with a herpetological collection full of preserved specimens of several types of frogs and reptiles.

I´m a 25 years old Brazilian male, trying to work out with a B.Sc. in Biological and figures out where to go with my life. In this mean time reading a lot of books, seeing a lot of movies and searching for good stories and interesting people.

I think about me as a easy going type, I´m inclined to be more a introvert type of guy and a little shy, but I really love to talk to different persons, listen to crazy ideas and share a drink. Have a great admiration for: writers, people with interesting philosophies or ideas and Artists (mostly the ones with a good Drawing skills) .

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” – Henry Miller

Whatever Works - As in the Woody Allen film, at this point of my life the important thing is move forward and see where life takes you. My basic quest is to search for "Strange Tadpoles, Good Stories and the " Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything" in the mean time I try to know interesting people.

In the future I want to develop these sets of skills: writing, drawing and photography. Also publish at least a book =]

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” – St. Augustine

I host surfers whenever is possible and also like to go to meetings or grab a couple of drinks or coffee with traveling surfers. Since my work let me little vacation time to travel, this is my way to get the CS experience the majority of the time (so let some pages of the book come to me).
Also when I travel I try to Surf and live a "CS way of life" (since the beginning of the year still hadn´t the opportunity).

"I don't care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members" - Groucho Marx

I was introduced to CS by my brother in the beginning of 2012, when I helped him host a CS surfer in my house. Since then I went to every CS meeting I could (in São Paulo, my home city, and Petrolina) and try to host as many people I can or to share at least a moment with the travelers.

Unfortunately soon after I meet the CS I moved to a small city in the interior of PE, northeastern Brasil, by professional reasons. In this City there aren´t lots of meetings or travelers, so i´m still a "beginner" in CS, but I try to help every surfer that I can.

"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Books and Comics are the main source of pleasure in my leisure time, I love to read. Also like to discuss good books and get suggestions for my nest readings from CSers.

Movies and Sitcoms, also are closes to the top of my spent time, I usually like to go at least once a week to the movies.
Listen to a good band play while drinking a good beer and having a good conversation is one of the better ways of spend a night.

Biology and Wildlife, like to discuss about animal behavior, evolution, ecology, conservation and herpetology. Also like naturalistic inclined people, hikes and camping.
RPG is a old hobby, so when is possible I like to play at least in one table. Have a ongoing campaign of D&D 3.5 in Planescape for 6 years now.

Photography is a new hobby, so I´m a beginner and like to train always it´s possible.

Chess is also a new hobby, so I'm not a very strong opponent, but would love every opportunity to learn something and play once.

Music, Movies & Books

Usually go for hard rock, but I also listen to: blues, jazz, classic music, rock and MPB (Brazilian Folk Music)
Some of my favorite bands are: Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, System of A Down, Mile Davis, Rush, Marillion, Jethro Tull, John Coltrane, AC/DC, Eric Clapton, The Doors, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age and Blind Guardian.

Like a lot of things, but one of my favorite movie makers is Woody Allen. Some of my favorites books without any order:
Matrix (only the first); Star Wars trilogy; Lord of The Rings trilogy; The Godfather (I, II, III); Ice Age; Annie Hall; Whatever Works; Midnight in Paris; Anything Else; 2001; Dogma; Memento, Pulp Fiction; Reservoir Dogs; Monty Python and the Holy Grail; etc...

A Hard to do list
Some of my top books: Lord of The Rings; The Hobbit; The Dragonlance Chronicles; Sophie World; On the Road; The Rum Diary; American Gods; Good Omens; Sandman (comics); Factotum; The Discworld series; A Song of Fire and Ice; Fragile Things; At the Moutains of Madness; The case of Charles Dexter Ward; Murder in Morgue Street; The Raven; O Caçador de Apóstolos e Deus Maquina ; O Vampiro da Mata Atlântica; Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas (Brazilian Books)

One Amazing Thing I've Done

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.” – George Carlin

One of the most beautiful places that I went in my life is the Parque Nacional Grande Sertão Veredas - great landscapes of the Cerrado Biome and a lot of wild life to see.
The Iguaçu Waterfalls and the encounter of the Negro and Solimões rivers are wondrous too, a breath taking sight in both cases, were we see how insignificant men are.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach - Something about biology and herpetology. Also could suggest some cool books and comics to read
Learn - Well Photography and Chess are on the top of my mind right now
