ABOUT ME

From the US, currently teaching/living in France, and I love my life! My job is wonderful, I have great collegues and great students. I live in a wonderful, welcoming city, and every day I discover something new. I love to go for a wander every few days and discover more of my city to add to my mental map. My favorite method of discovery is--don't laugh!--following either sunlight or a weird color-instinct. Like following the color red, wherever it pops out of the surroundings.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm brand new! I'd love to meet up with people in my city (can't really host, as I'm currently travelling, and also the building where I live has some rather strict guest restrictions).

Also, I'm currently looking for people my sister and I can stay with in France, Germany, and Italy! Will you be our hero and help us out? :D

Intereses

Music, all kinds. I love folk and indie music, and rock, and bands that are on the cusp of being discovered. I really am enjoying classical music right now too, and I'm basically obsessed with listening to "Le Partage de Midi" on France Music (87.5 FM in France) every noon. Artists/writers/composers selecting some of their favorite music and listening to that music along with their explanation of why they're drawn to it is so fascinating.

I love being outside when it's sunny.

I love analyzing pop culture and advertising for the ways that words and text interact with and influence culture(s) and how cultures influence this text.

Also, I'm involved with Invisible Children and other humanitarian organizations.

I really speak French as my second language. After speaking it for nine years, as well as currently living/working in France, I can really say that now and mean it. Next language please? :)

I speak and teach English. I love reading outloud. And singing. Although I won't if you ask me not to... I cook. I clean. I sew--would love to teach you how to, even if it's just sewing on buttons! I read anything and everything for fun and to learn things too (and edit. Keep me away from the newspaper. I usually can't resist writing all over it because I always want to improve the choppy prose, editing out the sensationalism and putting everything in a better order).
