About Me

I was born in Canada, moved to the US when I was 4 and grew up on a farm riding horses. The only traveling my family did growing up was back home to Canada or our yearly trip to the same beach. A 3 week jaunt in Indonesia was my first real trip traveling abroad and I was hooked. I'm currently on a solo two month backpacking trip around Europe and I love it!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm currently a 1st year DO student (for the next 8 days anyways!). The summer between 1st and 2nd year is the last chunk of vacation time we get for 3 years, so naturally I bought a one-way ticket to go backpacking around eastern europe. I've never been to europe and never traveled solo so this should have some pretty epic adventures. I've already had one request to write a book. I've never couch surfed before but I heard about it through some friends and love the idea of staying with locals to learn more about a place and what your life is like. I've recently become OBSESSED with podcasts and love ones that are basically stories of other people's lives. And to me couch surfing seems like a real life podcast. I love that.

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all of one's lifetime."
-Mark Twain

Interests

Good food, gardening, yoga, medicine, reading, coffee, and seeing every little corner of this beautiful planet. I have this fear, not of missing out on life, because life will tick on by if you just sit like a potato. But of missing out on fun, on adventures. On having epic stories to tell my grandkids one day if I ever have them.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Anything. I just found out kindle has a subscription service like netflix and it changed my life

Movies: The Illusionist, Taken, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I have terrible recall so that's all I can think of but I like movies with depth. And animated movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I learned how to scuba dive in the Corn Islands in Indonesia, one of the best places for scuba diving in the world.

On the same trip I hiked up a giant volcano at sunrise and there was a rainbow just as we summited. The guide said he had been climbing up the mountain for 10 years 6 days/week and he had never seen that before.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to learn about your travels, your culture, your little corner of the planet. I am purposely doing eastern instead of western europe because I want to get a feel for the culture and the people. And I don't think you can really get a taste of that unless you really immerse yourself.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a total nerd (obvi as I am voluntarily choosing to spend a minimum of 20+ years of my life in school) and I will gladly share my knowledge of the coolest things in medicine. I won't go into detail if you have a weak stomach, don't worry. Did you know there's a device for blind people that goes on their tongue and helps them see? On their TONGUE. That's so cool.
