About Me

My name is Livia Wassink, I was born and raised in Amsterdam. I am 18 years old. In September I'm starting with my study Future Planet Studies at the university of Amsterdam. I love to travel, especially in nature. Now I'm still in my gap year. During this year I've lived in Berlin for four months to improve my german and to get to know another city. I really enjoyed it and could not wait to travel again. Over the past months, I've been saving up for Japan, which I plan to visit for one month (June) together with my boyfriend Joel (from the pictures). We are very exited to meet some of the locals through couchsurfing! My friends describe me as funny, open and social. Joel has a good sense of humor and is very polite.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Like most people on this website, I love to travel. Traveling has become for a lot of people a basic priority. Nowadays you see tourists every were around the globe. I myself grew up in a city where tourism has been slowly taking over for the last couple of years. As a local, I don't like it that some of the local hangouts become to touristy. However, it would attract me to still go to those places, if the tourists would actually meet the locals and actually hang out with them. As a tourist myself, i feel the same desire to do so when I'm on a holiday. For me, the best way to meet a you, the local, is to actually see your house, and get to know you and you culture better. That's why couchsurfing is the best option for me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last christmas, I've visited Iran. It was the country that amazed me the most yet. You think the culture is such different (and it is), but it still takes on a lot of western patterns. When I was on the bus to Isfahan, I met a girl who invited me over to her house for some thee and food. That night, I experienced the real Iran and not the Iran the government wants you to see. The people were so nice and friendly, and a lot more open then you see on the streets. In Iran, a lot is forbidden, but as soon as I entered her house, all the rules where ignored. It's moment where I realised that with something like couchsurfing, you end up seeing the realest culture of the country.
