About Me

I'm an accountant/bookkeeper, who is currently taking a few years off work to travel the world. I'm also a divorced mom of a gorgeous 22 year old. I love to snorkel, and go diving and kayaking.

I'm a bit of an introvert, and find it hard to introduce myself to new people, but once I know someone, you can't shut me up.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I tend to be introverted, I know if I rent hotel rooms I'll end up being very isolated when I travel. And I definitely don't want that. I want to meet people and learn about the local culture!

Interests

I could kayak every day and never grow sick of it. Its definitely my favorite thing to do. But I love most outdoor pursuits. I'm definitely not one to spend a lot of time indoors.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love rock and alternative rock - mostly from around 1990 to present. I also still appreciate 80's new wave and some punk. I do like pop as well, but don't like to admit it. :)

My favorite movie ever was the Shawshank Redemption, though my taste in movies and t.v tends to lean towards sci-fi. (RIP Mr. Spock)

The last several books I've read have all been about health. Not so interesting, I know. Last year I did read "I am Malala", which was both excellent and eye-opening. I guess I'm probably kind of a NY Times best seller list follower when it comes to books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, besides creating another whole human being...
I've gone white water rafting, zip-lining, and rock climbing. I've also traveled long-term through Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize, and solo-traveled through western Europe.

I realize that's more than one thing, but since none of them are "amazing" per se, I thought I've give several. :P

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to learn other languages. I took Spanish in high school for four years and found it pretty easy, so I think I would pick other languages up without much trouble. Especially romance languages.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well I have all kinds of accounting, bookkeeping, contracts, word processing, Excel, and other office administration skills I could share. Or, if a host has never kayaked and wanted to learn, we could go rent a couple yaks and I could be a personal instructor.

I also have lots of experience using sites like E-Bay and Etsy if anyone needs a tutorial. Plus I have copy writing and editing experience so if a host has any kind of internet site that caters to English speakers, I'd be happy to take a look and make recommendations for improvements. I've noticed that lots of the AirBnB listings and other local travel blogs I've looked at are not very "English-speaking" friendly and could definitely stand to have a native english speaker and web-savvy person take a look at them.
