Join Couchsurfing to see ♛♛Maikel♛♛’s full profile. It’s free!
Hi my name is Maikel ♛,
I was born in 1978 in a little town called Oss, so guess what my age is.
In 2014 I moved to Rotterdam and I very soon started realizing how wonderfull this city is.
I am a really CS addict and share that everywhere. I am very talkactive and often make stupid jokes and sometimes even don’t realize that they are insulting to people sop lease consider this when meeting me.
For my work I make very long working days, leaving in the morning before 6 AM and returning after 8 pm often happens. I don’t like to have unknown people in my house when i’m not at home so in the case if you want to stay with me you have to deal with this and I strictly ask you to mention these times so that I know there won’t be a mistake in communication about this.
Though If you arrive on friday evening and like to stay until sunday I am very happy to host you. On saturday morning i’m always heading to Breda for my free AcroYoga lesson and when staying here you are welcome to join and I guarantee you that after the lesson you love dit and want more of it.
On tuesdays I mostly go to the CS weekly meeting in Rotterdam and Wednesday I give dutch lessons to Couchsurfers. (I am a real couchsurfing addict) Also when i’m travelling don’t be surprise that I also organise CS meetings myself wherever I might go to.
Anyway welcome to my life, I love all couchsurfers and when I host that means I share time with you.
Life can be long or short. Thats why we need to enjoy it as much as possible.
Always think lik that if i die tomorrow i must be sure to have fun today. Live like this all your life and you will be a very happy person.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
In 2006 I heared for the first time about Couchsurfing at a Hospitalityclub meeting and decided to join right away.
Since than I became addicted.
Even though I lived in a small town called Oss I didn’t get any couchrequests so I travelled myself.
Do caused by my addiction visiting every single couchsurfing meeting in the country (in the beginning there were 5 per year) I became the city Ambassador of Oss.
Just a bit later I got kicked out as ambassador caused by some stupid group-posts of me but since I remained as active as a non-ambassador they later asked me to become an ambassador again.
Then later Couchsurfing became a commercial website and then I had to motivate WHY I should be an ambassador again. As I did (and still do) a lot of activity’s I dediced to not apply anymore and only to do it again if someone asks me to become an ambassador again.
Later I moved first to Eindhoven and later to Rotterdam and these city’s already had ambassadors and I think they don’t need extra ambassadors as 1 or 2 per city are enough as long as the ambassadors are active people that show up at the regular meetings (just my opinion about ambassadors).
In the end I don’t need the ambassador status to be active as I am.
I used to live in Oss and learned the country quite well with friends and guests and by car I love sharing interesting sights in my beautiful country.
Now that I moved to Rotterdam I still love driving around the country with my car.
As I love the CS concept i organise meetings and love to surf as many couches as I can, this means when I search for a destination but can’t find a couch I might change my travelplans to visit a diferent place where I AM able to get a couch
I was introduced to CouchSurfing at 15 April 2006 in Rotterdam so finally they got me so far to join CouchSurfing as well as I already was a member of the Hospitalityclub.
Later I became addicted and I mostly try to meet people about every week and travel to my neighbouring country’s about once a month. I also got in a few newspapers around Europe interviewed about Couchsurfing and Hospitalityclub.
In 2008 I was on Regional TV in Gelderland:
I don't remember how many couches I surfed, or how many people I hosted since I moved to Rotterdam but for sure it is still growing.
As I get loads of very bad requests nowadays I only host a few people as also with hosting I want quality above quality.
The worst couch request I got so far was: “Hi I’m looking for a place to Crash” or many requests even from people being even to lazy to at least write down my name.
Also when you write that you Can or will bring sleepingbags and only need some space on the floor clearly shows that you didn’t read anything about my couch at all since I have many beds and blankets to give you a very good service.
Apart from this I Love to organize couchsurfing meetings and organised in total more than 100 meetings and still organize something almost every week and even the Sinterklaas event with more than 200 people attending.
I am interested in meeting a lot of people and I love to host people that come here not just for a place to sleep but to meet me and get around with me in the weekends.
I also love going to cultural things like museums for getting to know some local place.
I like to show people around my town bot also in our big world-harbor.
Further I really love to discover new things and often teas myself for getting out of my comfort zone. So if you like to do anything special with me please suggest it. I'm open to almost anything
Music, Movies, and Books
I love a lot of movies like
Land of Mine
Though my favorite movie is Land of Mine (a story about a dog) it manages to make me cry every single time I watch it again .
And there are more movies that make me cry.
I only read if it is something about traveling. Most other books make me fall asleep. I am also a local newspaper reader at my travel destinations.
Most kinds of music are also enjoyable as long as I can dance on it.
There is some kind of deep-house that I really like, artist that make this are Sigala, Kygo, Hardwell, and many more that I’m not going to call now.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
- Parasailing at lake Taupo in New Zealand in the Lord of the Rings scene.

Teach, Learn, Share
I can share you my quality of guiding around here around Rotterdam and when staying here that means we should have some social interaction.
People that I host are treated by me like my own family since I believe this is the only proper experience that you can give to a CouchSurfer. So when staying here I take you around, when I go walking I invite you and we try to have diner or breakfast together as it is about sharing time, in the case if you want to be very independent I might not be the right host for you.
For this reason, I don't like to host people shorter than 2 nights and we spend a certain day together doing whatever comes in mind.
At my working days I need to get up at 4:45 AM and will leave my home at 05:45 AM
You won't get a key from me so that means if you stay during working days you are expected to leave with me at that same time.
Requests I receive during working days Monday - Friday should realize that and arrivals after 22:00 are not accepted (also not when you are hitchhiking) unless you have a very good reason and told me in advance (and i gave you feedback that I accepted it)
Every week i have a day off on Friday or Monday. So in case if you want to stay longer than a weekend asks me if these days are okay and I will give you an answer as soon as I can.
There are many great festivals and I host you only for these in the case if we have a nice social connection.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Bad jokes, a smile (even in the morning) and love to make very good breakfasts while my host is still asleep to surprise him/her when getting up.
I always smile (even in the morning) Further I don't want to be independent but like to be treated like a piece of family of you.
This explains how I feel about my city Rotterdam.
