About Me

to take it as it comes

I am warm and open with how I feel. Direct and sometimes blatantly so. I like to tease and find humour in sarcasm but also really enjoy a decent honest chat about the way things really are. I'm curious about everything and ask a lot of questions. Love being around people but also really value my solitude & at times need to be alone.
I don't like awkwardness and avoid it wherever possible, will remove myself from situations I'm uncomfortable in. Don't like jokes at the expense of other people. Have absolutely zero tolerance for homophobic attitudes, sexism, nationalism, racist, fascist, prejudiced, negative rubbish.
I'm down to earth, rational, and simple things make me really happy. Sunlight, nature, watching things grow & connecting with like-minded others.

I try hard to tread lightly on the planet and I would rather grow some tomatoes in my garden than buy gassed out produce from a supermarket. Rather wear worn out clothes than be fashionable or stylish. I don't wear labels, I don't support large corporate retailers. I'm all about the underdog, the local shop, the home-made products. That said, I don't like to preach the correct method and don't believe there is one. If people are happy in their lives and not adversely affecting those around them then I've no problem with others' lifestyle choices. This does extend to religion, though I believe it can be dangerous on the whole and the source of much unhappiness and discrimination in the world. I consider myself an agnostic.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Always happy to have friends crash over if they're in need of a place to stay, but haven't couch surfed myself. About to embark on a 3 month trip around the world so will be gaining a lot of couch surfing experience hopefully. I'm far more interested in meeting locals and experiencing local life than visiting tourist spots and staying in touristy accommodations.

I'm immersed in music. Travelling to see bands, gigs, festivals. I'm open minded and fascinated with unusual folk who love to talk but also know when to listen. I love to explore places which are off the beaten track, I've spent a lot of time exploring my own city, often in places people are not generally supposed to go which are usually the most interesting. I play videogames and know how to take apart a computer. I work in a creative industry and LOVE to make things with my hands. This is essential to every day life.

Music, Movies, and Books

Not a television watcher, I prefer to watch only what I choose. This is usually cartoons or confronting movies, though occasionally some mindless entertainment is necessary. I have a major disdain for advertising and in-your-face tactics of modern day marketing. I don't read magazines, I don't often read the paper, but I have well developed personal philosophies based on my own experiences and those which I've learned from others. Avid book reader with a passion for fantasy and sci-fi. Books are my escape. I'm a fast reader and can get lost for days in one book.

Music wise I really get into punk, screamo, metal. Also adore some ambient sounds and instrumental music is sometimes the most powerful, depending on my mood. Stuff I listen to regularly:

Face to Face, Propagandhi, Bad Religion, Descendents, Cult of Luna, Fugazi, Breach, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Refused, Sublime, NOFX, Mum, Mogwai, Gojira, The Mars Volta, The Bronx, Mariachi El Bronx, The Killing Tree, Beirut, Weezer, Strike Anywhere, Against Me!... list goes on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I adore being under water. Scuba diving takes me to places that feel like home, a magical and vast part of our world which is full of mystery and beauty. All of the time I've spent underwater has been amazing.
