About Me

I guess I'm a curious, open-minded and kind person. After nearly endless time studying and working when I was just too busy to both travel and host, I'm finally having a looong vacation and want to spend it exploring other countries.

Other than that, I usually try to devote my time to things I deem meaningful. That doesn't have to mean they are also purposeful in the usual sense. ;-) Study, research, teaching, volunteering and activism, that's what occupied me these last couple of years. In the next, I want to focus more on teaching. But only after I travel a lot! :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To share, and help out travellers be it if they need a free place to stay, hints to get around, or they want to get to know better my city, country and culture here. For me, the probably most important feature is that people offer what they can share free of charge. Trying to get as independent on money as possible is sort of a life dream for me, and although I'm quite far from it, I try to explore and improve the ways of living lightly and inexpensively. Sharing accommodation both with flatmates and with guests and sharing what little time or experience one has is one of these ways. And there is the great benefit of getting to know better and more authentically the place where you stay.

These aspects are also why I like and want to use the possibilities of Couchsurfing when travelling abroad.

Interests

Understanding the world: nature, society, particular people. Finding meaning of and in things.

...OK, that sounds kinda too boldly and at the same time empty. Not that I'm thinking about these things 24/7, it's more like I'm trying to do things I consider meaningful and that I expect will bring some of the understanding.

Oh yes, and keeping with the bold and empty statements: making the world a slightly better place, even if it means only smiling on someone or trusting them.

And some more common interests: books, films, philosophy, cooking, walking (preferably in nature), hiking, sleeping under the stars, hitchhiking.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well...I don't really think I've done anything amazing. What does it mean anyway? Amazing to me or considered amazing by others?

But my most outstanding experiences were: defending the Hambach forest, sleeping outside in the town while attending a conference (because I didn't find CS host) and not killing myself on steep cliffs in heavy rainfall with a heavy backpack on my back in the middle of nowhere in Norway.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Experiences and stories from travels, of course. I would also be happy to cook some meal for you (I don't cook many 'typical' Slovak or Czech meals, but I like to use very traditional, partially forgotten ingredients.)

I can be both social or very independent.
