About Me

I am a bit of an aimless wanderer in more ways that one. Geographically I was born in Indonesia and grew up in Australia. After short interludes as an exchange student and language student in Champaign, Illinois, USA and Beijing, China respectively, I moved to Singapore, and since mid 2014 moved to Germany.
Professionally I started life as an academic. I did a PhD because I didn't know what I wanted to do and uni life was too good in Melbourne. Then I felt I wanted to work more with people instead of on research, so I did project management roles since, and still working out what I want to do in life. But generally life is pretty good. :)

Interests

My main interests are travel and languages. I came to Germany because I wanted to live in a non-English speaking country, and it has been a lot of fun.
I like fresh air, hence generally like being outside, even when it is cold. I cycle to get from A to B, up to a distance of 25 km. My husband sometimes gets me to cycle in forests with him, too.
I don't know how to make me sound like an alcoholic, but I enjoy the various characters of alcoholic drinks. I trained in wine tasting and wrote life style articles on wine for a blog. I also enjoy single malt scotch whisky, with varying tastes - previously peaty, salty island ones, but of late more fruity ones from highland.
I also like reading and music, of the list below, sometimes with a glass of wine or scotch.

Music, Movies, and Books

I read quite ecclectically in whatever language I can muster. I have very much enjoyed works of Jane Austen, the Brönte sisters, Paramoedya Ananta Toer (in Indonesian), Albert Camus, Kurt Vonnegut, amongst a few others, but day to day I do addictively live on a diet of murder mystery.
I play viola in an orchestra and enjoy very much music of the Romantic Era, particularly of Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert. From the 20th century, I love Queen and do feel nostalgic over teeny bopper songs from the 80s.
I very much enjoy watching the works of the Coen brothers and Stanley Kubrick, but my addiction to cop shows do put me in front of the telly on Sunday night at 20:15 in Germany for the weekly dose of Tatort.
