À propos de moi

ABOUT ME

Extroverted, friendly, and a pretty swell guy.

I'm a grad student at The University of Texas at Austin (Law and Global Policy), and I'm hoping to go into human rights work. If I weren't in school, I'd be playing music full time. I play guitar, mandolin, and basically anything with strings and frets (but I can't get the hang of the banjo)... like learning new languages, and I'm always interested in learning about other people and making new friends!

Centres d'intérêt

Human rights issues, music, writing songs, making cool sounds, international relations, middle eastern affairs, foreign policy, and more music... that's about it.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I've got a few crazy stories, but this one sums up my life philosophy pretty well...

About 3 years ago in Rwanda, I saw an abandoned church in a place called Nyamata where thousands were killed in the genocide of 1994... long story short, the experience drained my faith in humanity. I was emotionally wrecked, and an older Rwandan woman who worked on the church grounds came up to me and treated me like she would a child with a huge hug, a lullaby, and rubbing my neck. After the whole incident, I was told that she was a survivor of the that massacre in that church in 1994. The fact that she was able to comfort me (clearly a foreigner) in a place where she lost so much and experienced so much trauma restored my hope. In hindsight, it feels like I was demolished and rebuilt in one day.

That whole trip is why I do what I do... Thinking about it still leaves me awestruck... God damn.
