About Me

I'm a teacher, and I try to travel on my breaks! In the past, I've traveled around Europe, attended a festival focused on music, spirituality, peace, justice, and art, and hiked a couple of sections of the Appalachian, hiked in Glacier and Banff, ran a marathon in Montana, and my absolute favorite -- I spent two weeks in San Pedro La Laguna in Guatemala studying Spanish at La Cooperative. I'm keeping up my Spanish practice every day, and I'm slowly and surely making progress.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A couple of summers ago I traveled around Europe with a good friend. We couchsurfed in Haarlem, Netherlands and Prague in the Czech Republic. The hospitality we found enriched our trip and enhanced our appreciation for the culture. We were able to have unique experiences, like riding bikes through the street of Haarlem at midnight or take slacklining lessons in Prague. With couchsurfing, sometimes you are able to become more than just a tourist. Sometimes, you're able to become a part of someone's home, and that experience is authentic and deepening.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Marilynne Robinson essays and novels, Endo's novel, "Silence," and Barabara Kingsolver's "The Poisonwood Bible." Throughout my life I've read a lot, and enjoyed many books deeply. Krista Tippett's podcast, "On Being," as well as "This American Life," "The Moth," "RadioLab," and "Invisibilia."

Right now I'm trying to only consume Spanish media in my free time, which is a little bit challenging, but I want to keep up my Spanish. So right now I'm not watching or reading that much that adults read. lol. Mostly children's books and a podcast called, "Espanolistos." It's great for comprehension.

Teach, Learn, Share

Right before I graduated college, I made the decision to join Teach for America and become a teacher. I'm still teaching in schools that are filled with minority students from low-income backgrounds. I'm passionate about creating equal educational opportunities for all students. I love hearing about what other places are doing well with education and areas in which they need to improve.

What I want to learn from you is what you love about where you live. What you're proud of. What you're passionate about.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Guatemala, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Switzerland, Thailand
