About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To live with an open heart.

ABOUT ME

Hi everyone! My name is Mac and I am a 24 year-old California native. I just recently graduated from UC Santa Cruz, and have been working as a freelance translator since then! As you can probably see from my pictures, my life's greatest passion is capoeira, a Brazilian martial art/game/cultural expression. I have traveled to Brazil because of it too! I have also lived and studied in Mexico City, and I speak Spanish and Portuguese fluently. I love people! Meeting them, kickin' it with them, sharing experiences with them. I'm stoked to be part of this community, and look forward to meeting you!

PHILOSOPHY

Love and perseverance. Those are the two pillars of my existence. I believe that as human beings, we are put on Earth to love, to feel, and to experience life as bravely as possible. Cherish the life you have been blessed with, through the peace and through the struggles. By persevering through the rough times and keeping your heart open, you'll shine more brightly than ever.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am brand new to CouchSurfing, but I'm excited to be able to use it in the future to experience new beautiful people and places. I'm stoked to host too.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have spent a lot of time traveling, but I have never used the CouchSurfing website. That doesn't mean, however, that I have not couchsurfed. When I traveled to Brazil, for example, I never knew exactly who I would be staying with until I met them at capoeira-related events. I'm very low maintenance, and I can say confidently that my couchsurfing expereiences have not only been great for me, but for my hosts as well. To me, it's all about making new friends!

Music, Movies, and Books

I love hip-hop, samba, punk, whetever my mood dictates. When I read, I try to read older novels. Not sure why, just a preference. I just finished the Sea Wolf by Jack London. I also love listening to RadioLab.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Every morning I wake up breathing is amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've always wanted to learn how to speak Irish. It is an extraordinarily beautiful language...

Capoeira is played inside of the roda (pronounced ho-da), which means circle in Portuguese. Two people play at a time to the the rhythm of the berimbau, the pandeiro, the atabaque, the reco-reco, and the agogo (traditional capoeira instruments).

Countries I’ve Visited

Brazil, Costa Rica

Countries I’ve Lived In
